Movie poster
Hi

I have just finished this movie poster for resident evil. There was a contest in the States but its only open to US residents, I figured that this was be a good addition to my portfolio. Would like to know what you guys think.

Cheers

Ryan

I like the cold blueness, gives it a kind of 'desperate' feel. One thing that jumped out though, was the shadow behind the central figure (is that a shadow?), it gives the background a 'painted scenery' appearance, maybe enlarge it, with more blur for a long cast - of course, ignore this, if it's not a shadow

I agree - lose the shadow, it flattens out the background. Maybe some of the smoke at the back could be brought forward in front of the figures slightly, to help blend them in with the background.

What works really well is the contained colour palette. Far too often, Photoshop users take the approach "I've got 16 million colours available, and dammit, I'm going to use them all" - so it's refreshing to see such restraint at work. That said, I'd love to see a red or orange spot somewhere in there for relief! But feel free to ignore that suggestion...

Is the title too restrained, do you think? I'd be tempted to make the Resident Evil a lot larger, and maybe tuck it behind the heads a little, then bring Apocalypse down the bottom over the top of everything else. Some drop shadows could really help to bring those titles forwards as well.

Yes, a lot better! It's a shame the contest is US only.

Re: Movie poster
That poster is cool in all senses of the word.
It works really well especially after the shadow was removed.
I like the inclusion of the gunfire but I think it works best on the man at front as he looks to be actually firing the gun, however the female character's gunfire looks a little unrealistic.

I hate competitions that are closed to all but the hosting country - it wouldn't cost them much more to send your prize air-mail, sheeesh!

Thanks for the comments guys.

Maiden your right about the gunfire, will correct that, thanks.

I think the comp is only open to US residents due to legal reasons. Oh well maybe channel4 will do a competition some time

Cheers
