Living with nature image
Hi If you guys could give me your feedback on this image that would be great. As soon as I saw July`s Creative Challenge for Digital Photo mag ideas of what could be created started coming to me. I knew that I wanted to create an image of a room which was slowly being recliamed by mother nature. To start with I found an image of an old window which showed signs of rotting, I then put the window on a grey wall which had a texture applied set to overlay mode to get the appearence of flaking paint. On the old wall I placed two pictures of flowers which were growing out of the frame, again this was to suggest nature taking over. The last two things to be applied to the backdrop was ivy growing up the wall and an image of woodland outside the window. For the foreground I wanted to illustrate the balance of nature with the food chain, the first thing that came to mind was a cat and mouse, but while looking for suitable pictures I came across a fishbowl and thought that this would add more interest to the image.  |

This is a great image Ryan, the reflections on the table are spot on. I would maybe add a little blur to the wall and slightly more to the trees outside to give the feeling of more depth. _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

That is quite a lovely image. I agree about adding a touch of blur to the background to give a more focused depth of field but not too much blurring else you will lose the mouse. |

Thanks for the feedback  I did try adding a blur to the background but I didn`t like the way the detail from the mouse and flowers was lost.

Yes, I agree with Ryan on this one - it would be a shame to lose detail in the background just for the sake of 'photographic' realism. The only thing I'm tempted to do here is lighten and perhaps colour that big expanse of grey wall: I feel it draws the eye away from the foreground too much, it's just too stark as it is. How about a couple of coats of magnolia? |

I wonder who`s been watching the house doctor Steve 
I have just tried changing the colour of the back wall to magnolia and thought it made the whole image too bright. I also took away a textured layer which was set to multiply to lighten the wall, I think that this also made it too bright. Please check the attached pics. Ryan  |

You're right, the light background does detract from the image. Perhaps darken it again, but add a little colour to it? |

On second thoughts te light grey backdrop does look better than the darker grey

Love the image Ryan, especially the eye of the fish looking at the cat! Gotta say I prefer the first background, because the cat seems to blend in better. Have you tried a less textured or more plain wall? Maybe a touch lighter, but I think its the detail/texture which might be slightly too much. Excellent image though, well done. |

Hi Steve, I added a colour to the grey backwall but somehow is dosn`t look right, what do you think? Thanks for the compliment Russ I did try a plain wall but it didn`t fit well with the theme. The texture on the wall is supposed to simulate flaking paint.

Yes, much better - adding colour really brings the thing together. It's perhaps a little too green, though, clashes with the table slightly. A touch more red and you're there! |

Thanks for the suggestions on the changes guys The colour does add that bit extra to the image. Will try adding more red Steve to the image.

Thanks for the comments guys The image is featured in Digital Photo mag Trinity. If you guys are looking for a good digital imaging mag I can recommend this one.
