Sprayed on Butterfly
1st off I must say thanks for a great book. Just the thing needed by a hobbiest like myself, I have found a lot of the other photoshop books get too caught up in the fine details which is great if you are a pro, however a bit overkill for someone like myself.

This is a rework of another piece of mine, just the butterfly in that one, I'm trying to get to get it to look like it has been spray-painted on. Comments welcome.

Re: Sprayed on Butterfly
Looks good to me, except that the butterfly wings itself has lost shape with the drips making the entire butterfly look as if it's made of paint - which is a nice effect in of itself.

However, if you're wanting to make it look like the wings are painted I would suggest making a duplicate of the butterfly and apply the drip effect to that layer.

On the original layer (ctrl - pc) (command -mac) select the layer thumbnail in the Layer Palette and fill the shape with 50% gray.

Then select a suitable blending mode for the paint layer hopefully then it will look like the paint is dripping off a blank butterfly shape. If you understand what I'm saying.

Thanks for the comments, the effect that I was looking for was one where the butterfly does look like it has been sprayed on. Hell I want the can of spraypaint that can do that lol.

Here is the original image of the butterfly that I was working from.

Re: Sprayed on Butterfly

I had a try but the idea about the 50% Gray filled layer didn't comes off as I expected so opted to add some Filter/Artistic/Plastic Wrap to a duplicate layer set to Blending Mode Lighten, then duplicate that layer and set it to Darken to try to give it a wet paint look.
