Bird Feeder
This was taken from my front porch along with a bit of "cheating". Comments as always welcome.

Re: Bird Feeder
My overall impression is that the red and yellow birds where added and I have a couple of comments that.

First: the overall contrast is low, but the red bird has a strong highlighting on the back, which doesn't look correct.

Second: the yellow bird has too sharp outline compared to the others. I would change that and I would also add some shadow to it. I also think you should move the bird "forward" and partly hide behind the feeder tube. Or, if you would like to see the head, simply turn it around. Right now it looks like it's about to fall off.

Re: Bird Feeder
If it were me, I'd flip the red bird as well. Its position and angle are just too close to the yellow bird for comfort.

But since you could have put anything on here, you've been rather restrained! Where are the albatross, the vulture, the pterodactyl?

Re: Bird Feeder
actually my restraint is starting to wear thin...just haven't come up with anything really good. The vulture does have some possibility. By the way, the middle bird of the three on the bottom was also added.

Re: Bird Feeder
That's indistinguishable from the real thing; what was the feather radius(scuse the unintended pun) used?

Re: Bird Feeder
The cardinal and the background are rea, so the background blurred because of limited depth of field. The other two birds were added. I feathered the edges of the birds by:
1. select (bird)
2. modify...contract 2 pix
3. inverse selection
4. fill...set at 50% and clear
5. blur (gaussian) set at 2 pix

Thanks for the input.

Re: Bird Feeder
Besides your unquestionable Photoshop abilities, I think you (and your wife) are pretty good photographers too. I always enjoy what you post in this forum. Real good work with the second one.

Just to be critical too, I would kind of put the lower pigeon abit darker, as he is on the far side of the light (we can guess the light direction with the long tubular thing).

Re: Bird Feeder
This one is real. I waited long enough to catch all the birds in one shot.

Re: Bird Feeder
I like that flying bird aiming at the peg. What kind of camera are you using? Like I said before, I like your photography.

Re: Bird Feeder
Thank you. I have been using a Nikon Coolpix 5700 for several years.
I recently got a Nikon D70S which I am still getting to know. The flying bird was taken with the D70S. Most of the bird pictures were taken with the older and lower resolution 5700, Thank you once again.

Re: Bird Feeder
That bird is going to have one hell of a lump on its head if you don't move the shadow a little!

Re: Bird Feeder
At the moment, it seems like the bird's head is right up against the feeder. This is because there is a dark area which looks like a shadow. Cloning this out and adding a slightly darker area lower down gives the bird more of a position in space. I also lightened the bird a little with the Dodge tool as it was a little dark. It's a subtle one.

Re: Bird Feeder
I got a D70 (and a D70S too at the office), if you have questions, just ask. I played with it quite a bit and getting quite comfortable with it. But keep the 5700; easier to carry around...
