Utoya island massacre
80 innocent people were killed in Utoya island massacre in Norway on 22 July. I could never imagine that such a horrible thing could ever happen in my peaceful country.

If only human beings did not have such an enormous capacity for hatred ...

I made this poster and sent it to my previous colleagues at the University of Oslo. I think it can be seen on the walls in some of the faculties by now.

The text is in Norwegian. The title says “we can stop the hate”. And the rest of the text is a poetry conveying a core massage; that hatred does not cease by hatred ...

The island in the background was created in Vue 9.5 Infinite, and the figures are Poser figures imported and rendered in Vue (for consistent lighting). PS was used to apply filters and perform color and brightness adjustments.

Re: Utoya island massacre
I was shocked when I heard it, not something you expect to happen in Norway.
Your poster brought this little fable to mind;
An old Cherokee Indian Chief was teaching his grandson about life. "A fight is going on inside of me," he said to his grandson. "It is a terrible fight between two wolves," he continued.

"One is evil- angry, envious, sorrowful, regretful, greedy, arrogant, self-pitying, guilt-ridden, resentful, lying, full of false pride, superiority and ego driven," the Chief continued to say.

Then the Chief pause and said, "The other wolf is good- joyful, peaceful, loving, hopeful, serene, humble, kind, empathetic, generous, truthful, compassionate, and faithful."

"The same fight is going on inside of you, grandson, and in every other person," said the Chief.

The grandson thought about this for a moment, turned to the Chief, and said, "But, grandfather, which wolf will win?"

The old Cherokee replied, "The one that you feed."

Oh dear.

You give profound commentary Vibeke. Thank you.

My life is deep, thick, shocking and broad from many countries and life.

You express it well Daniel. Like all language, I only understand some of it. If we have a coffee or beer together, then I would understand better.

I only went to a night club in Oslo last time. People fine. Maybe I start leaving when I don't understand + plus need to get an early flight.

Outside of this subject. Norway is great, or at least as know it.

---- off topic---

My Avatar is from Norway (Tiroll Stigg) from when touring, taken by my Oz mate from his BMW bike. Ok we posed a little, but very tough in the rain. So happy to meet our German fellow Moto and share a cabin.

Hi Vibeke,

And thanks for the nice fable. It says it all about human nature.

When something like this happens, one of the first things that comes into our minds is vengeance, and we start feeding that nasty evil wolf inside us with anger.

I have to say that I am really proud of how people in Norway responded to this terror action. The prime minister said “Our answer will not be hate and revenge, but more openness, more tolerance, and more democracy”. I think there is a lesson to learn here; uber-patriotism, military invasions, and domestic crackdowns are not the right response to terrorism ...

Hi Trevor,

The poetry was sent to me by a friend, I did not write it myself ... However, I will be more than happy to translate it for you over a beer or a cup of coffee. As I have said before, just let me know whenever you are here in Tokyo ...

The nature in your avatar looks amazing. I have always wanted to have a motorbike ... I envy you...
