Buddhist Shrine
This is my attempt to create from nothing a Buddhist shrine in a cave. It took quite a while, as I still have a lot to learn about PhotoShop. The pedestal, stairway and sunbeams were created from scratch but all the rest is from images I found on the web (see below). By chance some parts of this picture turned out to be a bit strange, but I decided not to change them. For example: Is the boy saluting Buddha or is he going to thumb his nose? Is Buddha alive or is he just a bronze statue? Is he greeting the boy or is he about to flatten him? I thought maybe it would add a bit more interest to the image. The sunbeams took hours of experimenting, and I think they are about right, but the shading took even longer and it still needs some work, especially where the sunbeams meet the floor. It was just not enough to put a big white blob on the black floor then try fading, blurring, blending and filtering in various combinations – it still looked wrong. So I finally gave up and left it out altogether. The plinth is also less than perfect, and took a lot of trial and error. To me it was essential that the boy’s head and arm were highlighted by the sun’s rays falling on the plinth. You would expect such a stand to be decorated with gold leaf or something, but that took attention away from the boy, so, reluctantly, I kept it simple. ![]() Separate parts breakdown is here. |
