Re: Mount Rushmore
I tried this once. Can't remember why. It was horribly difficult and not a great success. I think you have done pretty well. The cracking is good and the texturing of the main features is excellent. A tiny bit more noise in the smoother looking forehead and hair? And take a little bit of magenta out of the shadow side? I think you are very close. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Mount Rushmore
Does this help? Copied the head to its own layer and made it into a smart object so I could play with changes but leave them adjustable. Changes were applied only to the head - the rest of the image is untouched. 1) Unsharp mask to harden features very slightly. 2) Added some noise. 3) Shifted highlights very slightly towards blue and brightened them just a fraction. 4) Shifted shadow colour closer to the rocks beside it and deepened very slightly.
All very tiny changes. Not sure if they work but it's different. In the end this is one of those things you can go on fiddling for ever. I don't know if it was the sculptor or reality but all his predecessors seem to have had very large noses!

Re: Mount Rushmore
Thanks for your feedback and help David, and Yes your offering is an improvement. Galvanized by your help, I have gone further, and made (like the others) his head stick out above the rocks/mountain. I also made a copy-selection of rocks to go near his head. I hope this is more realistic! "Dorset Man" is our "Mount Rushmore" here in England. What do you think?

Yes putting the head higher is clever. Shouldn't Dorset man be something 'Borisy' ........? _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Mount Rushmore
David, well done. You have visited Mount Rushmore before with LWC, so you had a head start on this one. It's still hard to do, isn't it? |
