What is your opinion please?
I came across this rather beautiful painting of flowers by Jan-Frans-Van Dael. the first image is after I applied the Shadows and Highlights, and the second image is the original (untouched); anyway, I can't make up my mind which I prefer, so what is your opinion please?

Sorry, I prefer the second, original image. The shadows in the corners drag your eye in towards the middle. When everything has an even tone, the image loses focus. |

I agree with Steve. It is, in fact, quite common practice in post to apply a very slight vignette to images to achieve just what Steve said. Purely personally I find images where things are disappearing into shadow and are hinted at, rather than seen, are often far more interesting. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

I prefer the second image because the darkeness of the vignettte emphasises the whiteness of the centre. |
