OK, I'll start the gallery off
Hi, I'm Carl, photorealistic montages is probably my first love and where I began my journey into graphic art. Everything I do graphic wise is based around the the areas that Steve has covered so well in his book. I do all of this as very serious hobby, along with photography. I have now moved into non-commercial video / audio editing and short film production. All of my movies use many montages and animation. I call them music movies because they are much longer than music videos and have a fun storyline behind them. All are rated G and appropriate for everyone. They represent hundreds of hours of my learning curve in this area and promise you a smile if you take the time to check them out. The links to my gallery all begin here, The main page will take a little bit of time to load for dial up users. http://petersencomputing.com/carl/paintshop_pro_projects.htm Anyway, I hope some of you will be able to check out some of the still and video projects in my gallery. I look forward to any comments you might have. Particularly looking forward to seeing other galleries as this forum grows. Thanks for taking the time to read my intro and here is the link. |

re OK, I'll start the gallery off Re: OK, I'll start the gallery off Thanks for kicking things off, Carl - and it's great to see you've had so much fun with Photoshop. Sometimes I forget, among all the commercial jobs, that Photoshop is just downright entertaining to play around with. Oh, and thanks in particular for the idea for this year's Christmas card! Steve |

Thanks Steve
Glad you had a chance to stop by and check out some of my projects Steve. I'm really looking forward to incorporating some of the things you cover in the book in future projects, particularly in the area of shadows and shading. For whatever reason I have a tough time judging how shadows should appear based on the overall lighting. I was really suprised to see how much dodging and burning you use in your montages, but after looking at your results at bringing in shading, I can see why. Glad the x'mas card brought on some inspiration or ideas. It was a very basic montage but it came out nice. Got any ideas on how to turn a kid into a vacuum cleaner? A good friends son has been obsessed with them since he has been 2. I want to do a nice montage for his birthday. Carl |

Shading
Yes, shading is really important - and it's the one area you need to work on most, I'd say. Even lowering the saturation on images would make them look more like they fit in the scene. Don't worry too much about lighting direction, it really isn't as important as you might think! Just make the tone of the placed images match the background as much as possible. |
