...but I thought everyone ought to see this. Nothing to do with the book or any of its readers, but what the hell:

Excellent, what a fantastic satire all done by the medium of Flash -One of my favourite animations tools. I think Jib-Jab is created by one of the many talented people who frequent b3ta.com.

Is that the Bush/Kerry musical? I can't see it due to 'corporate filtering policies' (oh to work from home!)

Yeah I saw it a while ago, its cool. I can never get to grips with flash though, ive only managed simple tweens with letters fading in and out, this stuff is way above my head.

I love the after fx animations on your site Steve, you should do more of them, The Tony Blair one is fantastic

I've had this real problem with Flash from the beginning, when it was a clumsy program that used its own bizarre interface. But having seen that movie, I really think I've got to learn it now. Maiden, this is the stuff you should be doing!

I agree totally, Flash is one of those programs I looked at a few times, got some text to float about in a disturbing manner and then I put it away again.

Saying that, I did the same thing with PS, the first time I saw it

Macromedia Flash is one of the most amazing and useful programs out there, and combined with Photoshop and other programs it can achieve insanely amazing heights. For an example of Flash's potential I heartily reccommend that you check out http://www.brokensaints.com. Broken Saints is a 12-hour cinematic graphic novel in Flash, with 24 "chapters", or installments. Since Flash is a vector program (like Adobe Illustrator), many of the pictures can look sharper than bitmap files, but bitmaps can be imported into Flash, and so when you combine the potential of bitmap files with Photoshop and the vector abilities of Flash, the results are nothing short of stunning. I recommend that you watch the DVD trailer (they are putting out a 4-disc set of the epic in the fall) to get a full idea of what Flash can do.

I've just been experimenting with Flash so far, but I really like the program. So far I've ripped off Broken Saints with this little trailer:

but I've also incorporated some Photoshop techniques from Steve's book and I've painted over pictures of myself, added stubble and changed the expression of my face to create a wholly original drawing.

You think that's bad? Same thing happened to me with Word...

These are a few examples of my Flash movies the last is more in keeping with the trend of using bitmapped images and animating them - which http://www.rathergood.com/ have set a benchmark in this kind of flash comedy

Just catching up on what I have missed on the message boards during my holiday

I have to say that Flash and all animation is way over my head. I am totally in awe of anyone who can -
1- Think of the ideas
2- Use the software!

This was a link posted on the Freaking News site some time ago, but I think it is so cool. My kids love it too, it has saved me on numerous occasions after I placed in in my favorites, it settles them down when all h*ll is about to break lose, stopping them in their tracks

Does anyone know of any good starter pointers into animation? I would love to have a go.
