Re: Political Poster
Sorry, Martin, you can't post PDFs - here it is as a jpeg. Good choice of images, but isn't Bush a little too highly contrasted? ![]() |

Re: Political Poster
Very good choice of images, but I agree with Steve about Bush being too highly contrasted. I viewed the PDF file before I saw the JPEG here and that is the first thing that I noticed. Other then that, a great idea. Very creative. How about the American flag with Nazi symbols instead of stars draped on the podium, and Bush's hand in a German salute, and a sign that reads, "Happy Barmitzvah, Adolf" in the background and... raymardo _________________ Sometimes you have to stand in your neighbor's backyard to get a good view of your own. raymardo |

Re: Political Poster
I think you guys are both right about the high contrast image of Bush. But let me tell you why I settled on that...First, these all come from Itnernet downloads and that means very little resolution-information to work with. I'm not sure there was enough info in the Bush picture to make less contrasty...but, the other thought I had when making it, is that i really wanted Bush to be the main eye-catcher inthis poster so I went ahead and left it that way....In that sense it works for me. if you have additional commentary that would be of interest... |

Re: Political Poster
Martin, I understand what you are saying regarding the quality of internet images and that you wanted to draw focus to Bush, but unfortunately using high contrast to highlight Bush tends to make the viewer think there is something wrong about the image rather than draws their attention to the message of the image. Even though it may seem clear to you, sometimes you have to step back from an image and take on an objective view point (which can be difficult to do) and reassess your work. Does it get the point across? Does the image look incongruous? Is it too subtle or too blatant? Being self critical is sometimes a necessary thing, but also we have to know when to step back from an image and say "I think it works". I hope you see these as words of encouragement, as I intend them to be, because your idea is a solid one with the only shortfall being that you haven't access to higher quality source images. But one thing that might make Bush more prominent in your picture is to use a source pic of Bush standing behind the US Pesidential podium with a ghostly image of Hitler emanating from him. here's a quick example: ![]() Admittedly this doesn't convey the same sense of raw emotion as yours does that's because I just selected 2 images rather quickly but it doesn't take much to swap the Bush behind this podium for a Bush image where he's emoting more and then you are conveying the same sense of emotion. Here's another example with more emotion: ![]() Becky |

That second one is really good Becky, I love the way you put together clever images so quickly as 'examples', when theyre really very good images in their own right. ![]() |

Re: Political Poster
Thanks Russ, but they are examples because I can't take credit for the original idea. Politically speaking I wouldn't classify Bush as an Hitler, I'd have perhaps chosen the spirit of Ronald Reagan emanating from Bush as another arch war-monger that Bush tries to follow in his footsteps. |

Excellent Maiden, I agree with Russ, the second one is the best. Very ectoplasmic. _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

Re: Political Poster
Well, this is all very interesting...quite a bit to think abouit. Thank you everyone for the input...as an aside, I might point out that Reagan is wouldn't work for me here...as too many don't see him as the evil he was...and I have to sadly ponder why my fellow citizens are so easil;y manipulated by fear--a tool of all our modern tyrants. I suppose reality in the US today seems so raw that I accepted the rawness of the image as valid...but i think the point is well taken that one can become distracted by the lack of smoothness between the two images...All in all, i've enjoyed all this brainstorming and input. |

Re: Political Poster
Yes, Martin I can see your point about Americans not seeing Ronald Reagan as a figure of evil but more as the Pioneer of "Reaganomics" which made a lot of rich Americans far richer even if that was at the cost of the poorer sectors of America, particularly the US manufactoring industry, Coal and Steel. I can see how some Americans saw Reagan more as a strong leader than war-mongerer, but alas to convey the emotions of war-mongery we all tend to "over-egg the pudding" by using Hitleresque expressions and attributing them to present day leaders which in some way goes to diluting the horrors of Nazism - and when we as nations forget the horrors of the past we then make ourselves vulnerable to repeating the mistakes that led to those horrors. But that's enough about politics have a funny pic ![]() ![]() |
