On face value: It tells me that this is a high profile organisation, dealing with international security, possibly data because of the grid. The chain, lines and markers suggest that it has bases/affiliates across the globe.

I could, of course be talking utter sh*te

Right on the money! The client provides worldwide security solutions for their clients. Now time to send it to them

Re: What impression does this image give
I'm a bit bothered by all the perspectives. Yes, I know, I keep banging on about this, but shouldn't the lettering at least follow the perspective of the building? It's just wider than the 2-3 window group at the bottom, but half the width of the building at the top. I'd love to see the map in some sort of perspective as well - maybe not following that of the building, but going in the other direction? Not a huge amount, just enough to give it a bit of 3D space.

Do you think perhaps the chain is one element too much? And, if it was me, I'd run the grid over the sky but not over the building.

Well, you did ask…

Steve, will I ever be glad to see your new book with the perspective chapter (or a book on perspective) I have more trouble getting it correct. Love your book more and more. Just wish I had more time to devote to it.
Would it be possible for us to be test subjects on your perspective notes?

Well now, there's an idea. I know software has beta testers, but I've never come across that in a book before!

Let me give it some serious thought.

Re: What impression does this image give
The image sums up to me a global corporation highlighting some capital cities (London seems to be amiss, perhaps this company doesn't have a base there)

But in my humble opinion the word "Protect" has some Big Brother overtones and feels a little intimidating, I don't know if others feel the same way, but Globalisation smacks of very rich men in grey suits with little or no social conscience.

The blue also has political overtones as it's the colour of The Rightwing, plus it's cold and uninviting. Perhaps a green colour of a warmer colour would seem less authoritarian.

That's just my opinion, Ryan, but a nice design nonetheless.

Edit: Just realised after reading through, it's a Security Firm. Perhaps then the illustration should definitely be warm & inviting, perhaps words like Protection or Secure should replace Protect as they have a more softer feeling, maybe even arms shielding the world from harm, like a mother protecting it's child.

Thanks for the feedback guys The client decided to drop the the protect and just wanted the map with targeted locations. Here is the final revision on the splash page. http://dsprotection.com/

Steve I did try adding a perspective to the map but it looked distorted. I think now the protect word is ditched it looks better.

Becky strong arms are a good idea, i'll suggest this to the client. So far he is very happy.

Looks good, Ryan, perhaps I was wrong about the blue, against that background it looks more professional than cold. I'm glad the cilent is happy, nothing worse, I would imagine, than an unhappy one.

Certainly an interesting thought! I'd be game to try and crash a few pages

One effect the image had on me instantly was one of falling. The image did make me feel as though I was falling backwards. Not sure if that's just me

I also agree with the comments maiden made about it being a Big Brother setup.
