Great idea, Dave: busting an image out of its frame is always an effective solution.

Couple of points here, though. The skeleton is already half way through, as shown by his leg in front of the frame; but the hands are enormous in comparison. This "your country needs you" style of foreshortening is really hard to achieve convincingly, and I'm not sure it's needed here.

I'd keep the lightning bolt within the frame, so it appears as part of the view through the window without breaking through it. And a slight shadow beneath that leg, superimposed on the frame, would really add to the realism!

If you're new to photomontage, as you say, then you've certainly come a very long way. Excellent work!

Dave,

Overall I like the effect, however the very first thing I noticed was his right hand... looks like 5 fingers with no thumb and the pinky finger is longer than the rest. Reminds me of a section of the book where this climber is positioned at various places on the mountain to illustrate why placement is so important, to gain the best overall feel... The forearms seem hidden behind the hands, if you were to move the right hand to near the top of the frame, and the left a bit lower, you could show more of the forearm and the gradual enlarging of the bones as they come from the background to the foreground... adding to the feel of depth.

Just to say thanks to the people who replied to my post. The advice given is much appreciated. I have had the book coming upto 2 weeks now and am just starting to get to grips with some of the techniques. Hope to post something a little better soon. Thanks again.
