Re: The girl with the "flaming" red hair
A humble suggestion to improve your great picture would be to add strands of hair (fire?) like I've done on the left side using the smudge tool at a very low setting (I actually used 1 px). I did this to enhance the 3D effect, to give the hair more volume. I have also defringed her. Since the original background has been removed, the backlit appearance is slightly disturbing to me. ![]() _________________ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Yes, it probably needs more work on it, and you're more than welcome to modify if you wish ( contact me if you want a psd of the elements. I got the idea from a photo in a New Age shop in town. Michael ![]() Did someone say fire... ![]() |

Michael kindly let me have his original PSD file to work. Once I got hold of that I tried a different approach. This is the result. ![]() Thanks for letting me have your file, Michael! _________________ Only in my brightest moments I understand myself |

Re: The girl with the "flaming" red hair
And here's a short description of what I did: First I isolated the girl from the background and removed a little fringing. Michael’s hair of flames was already separated so I didn’t have to do that. I then raised the contrast of the girl by a Curves adjustment layer to match the contrast of the new hair. The new hair was created from a picture of real flames which I used Transform/Warp on to roughly adjust to the shape of the flowing hair. I then used the Liquify Filter to give the hair even more flowing lines and tried to duplicate the shape of the original hair to some extent. Liquify didn't return the colours I wanted so I had to add a curves adjustment layer enhancing the yellows and reds in all modes. Next step was to use Dodge and Burn to taste. The final step was to change to a brick wall background and blur that in order to motivate why she was backlit as there would be space enough between her and the wall to put up a light between the wall and the girl. _________________ Only in my brightest moments I understand myself |
