Self Beautification
My partners camera is terrible for picking up shadows under my eyes, and generally doesn't do me any favours.. so i've taken to editing just about every photo that comes off it. This one i took a little further than usual, and i've just finished it so thought i'd post up and see if you guys have any tips or opinions on it? here's a link to an animation between the 2 so you can see the difference a little clearer warning though - its 1.2mb http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/gracefullygothic/art/pretty3.gif origional: ![]() revamp: ![]() What i did: Firstly i started, as i always do, getting rid of the shadows under my eyes. I do this with the clone tool set to lighten and about 40 - 50% opacity. i then pick somewhere like my cheek that has alot of well lit skin, and roughly go over it with a soft brush. Then i lighten and brighten the whole picture by duplicating the image, and with the new layer applying the gaussian blur filter at about 3 px, and setting the layer to overlay. this is usually too harsh on colours so i reduce opacity as required (about 70% here i think) i also erase (using layer mask) anything thats not skin.. (clothes, hair, eyes etc) so that the picture stays sharp Then i brightened up the eyes, lassoo them as acurately as possible, and feather the selection to 2 - 3px. i then duplicate them onto a new layer, and lighten + brighten them about 10 - 15. already its starting to look a lot better. But then i decided that green wasnt my colour, and i wanted a red top ![]() next thing, i brightened my teeth, selected them and pasted onto a new layer and lighten + brighten to 10. nearly done, but this, personally, is where i think it doesnt look as good as it might.. i hunch my shoulders and it doesnt look good. so using the liquify tool, i sloped my shoulders and made my neck a little thinner. i also made my arms look thinner and got rid of th slight lump of skin going over my jeans. Because i did this all on liquify, the background looked wrong (you could see where i'd moved it) so i duplicated the image, and set to multiply, then i masked it and got rip of what went over my body leaving a dark background with my image light and bright underneath.. probably i would have been better of fixing the background by hand.. but i got hungry and my concentration wasn't too great. personally i think the image has gone a little too far and doesnt look quite natural enough.. but i'm not sure where ![]() comments and critisism always appreciated. I'm just a young girl trying to figure out photoshop at the minute! i've never read and books on it and i learn by doing, and people like yourselves offering advice on where i went wrong! _________________ Passion is the source of our finest moments. Re: Self Beautification
That looks fantastic - some really great Photoshop work there. Reshaping the shoulder was certainly a good move, but I think you've gone a bit too far on the upper arm - makes you look rather anorexic, wouldn't you say? You've achieved some great skin tones there, though, and the overall lighting is excellent. Thanks, too, for the GIF, which really shows off what you've done. Welcome to the forum! Steve |

Re: Self Beautification
i think you're probably right about the upper arm, i'm quite slim anyway so any smaller does look too much, it was difficult getting it to look good after sloping the shoulders though.. and also i think theres alot of shadow on the otside of the arm which makes it look even smaller ![]() thanks for comms and welcome, me think's i'm gonna like it here _________________ Passion, it lies in all of us.
