Is that a Lesser or Greater spotted woodpecker?

Re: Tired of My Flowers?
No, I think it's a tree.

Oh, you mean the thing in front of the tree.

Re: Tired of My Flowers?
My book identifies it as a "Downy Woodpecker". Hairy Woodpeckers are larger and have longer beaks. Nothing in my book about less or greater. Thanks for admiring the superb photography.

He He ... It's a great picture Marty ... I've tried to take pictures of birds myself and I know how tricky it is .. the little blighters just don't stay still for a second do they?
Hmmmm? ... just a thought ... this is the 'cheat' forum .. you didn't, by any chance put glue on that tree did you?

If you look closely you will see how I got the bird to pose.

Re: Tired of My Flowers?
I thought I would throw this one in. This obliging little chap just sat on this post less than 5 yards away watching me for 2 or 3 minutes while I took a series of shots of him

Marty has competition! Great shot Gordon! May we be so impolite as to ask the camera type, lens and sort of tecchy insignificant stuff?

Re: Tired of My Flowers?
Hi Pierre,

One of the nice things about digital photography is that all the shooting info is stored with the image so I can tell you that:- the camera was a Nikon D100 with a Nikon VR 70-200mm f2.8 lens set at 200mm. The original was a jpg and was shot at 1013 am on the 28th March 2003!!!

1/350 sec @ f5.

As I had intended using only a wide angle lens on this walk I had just my 20mm attached. Fortunately another person I was with had his zoom lens and let me borrow it for a couple of minutes.

The robin stuck around long enough for both of us to get some shots.

He has appeared in at least one photoshop image (not on the forum) and will probably appear again I suspect.

This Puffin was shot in its burrow on the island of Skomer just off the coast of Wales. Nikon D100 with Nikon 300mm lens.

Re: Tired of My Flowers?
Wow! Real great shots! Thanks for the specs Gordon. We're about to start a parallel Nikon club on this forum...

Pelican in Stuart, Florida this February. D70, Sigma 70-300 at 300, f13 1/800s at ISO 400. We should stop this techy stuff, peolpe will start avoiding us.
