Re: outdone Mariner in a fraction of the time
Amazing, Michael, and I am flattered that you took the time. However, there are a couple of small things wrong with your image: 1. You have not removed the distortion left and right pointed out by Anna. 2. There should be a No Parking sign on the RH drainpipe. 3. There should be five steps leading up to the main door and a plaque on the LHS of it. 4. The ground floor windows don't look right. They are far too tall. All in all though it is amazing what you have done with generative fill. Personally I much prefer to chase down the orignial images on the net and carry out a rather laborious, but very entertaining fix. Affinity Photo, which I use exclusively, does not have any AI yet, and if it did, I still wouldn't use it. After all, how much fun can you get out of solving one of Steve's problems in just ten minutes? |

Re: outdone Mariner in a fraction of the time
Thanks for responding Michael. A few comments: 1. I have never been to Rochelle, so it looks normal to me 2. I have removed all the clutter to put in my own stuff and by the time that happens some of the points you mention won't be visible or noticeable . 3. I'm now free to spend hours on a animation that would not have been possible if I did a "Google-Woogle" To be honest I'm amazed that I got such a good result too. anyway, as they say "There's more than one way to skin a cat. I'll send that MacDonald over to see what his take is on it. ![]() |

I am very ambivalent. The obvious convenience is tempting. But if it's not my work and effort that's achieving results then the satisfaction and sense of achievement is vastly reduced or even, in some cases, removed. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

But you have to admit, it’s a pretty compelling argument for the efficacy of Generative Fill. |

That's bloody amazing, Michael. I've made a certain peace with generative fill. Once I understood it's only a tool and it has limitations, I'm no longer concerned it will take over. I use when I need to, but the majority of my work is still done manually. However, I've been exploring Midjourney recently. If anyone is interested head over to Discord and play around with it. I can guarantee it will blow your mind. I asked it to create the port of Lagos in Nigeria during the colonial era at sunset and this is what it came up with. ![]() _________________ Dorothy: Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore |

AI goes so, so much further than pictures. I think we are on the edge of a social and economic upheaval that will make the industrial revolution seem tame by comparison. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Anna as David would say you must not attribute "ability" to me when all I did was press a button. Your rendition of Lagos harbour is a fantastic image---well worth framing ![]() I hope the site owner won't put a ban on Generative fill in the Friday challenge. ![]() |

Re: outdone Mariner in a fraction of the time
I agree. AI servers are already connecting with each other across the world, and are surely improving their combined intelligence abilities and knowledge bases. Human beings are, on average, nowhere near as clever as they think they are, and certainly not as clever, or as fast, as some AI algorithms. It won't be very long before AI "phantoms" find ways of influencing, say, foreign and domestic policy. Can we put the genie back in the bottle? I don't think so. The monkeys are down from the trees, but their attitude is still "Me first!", and that's the way it will very likely stay. Unless we unite then how can we contriol AI? |

Agreed. What interests me about this technology is not so much what it can do, as the mistakes it makes. Look at Anna's extraordinary rendering of colonial Lagos, and at first sight it's hugely impressive. Then as you look closer, you start to see the many errors. That's what will differentiate people and AI for some time to come. |

Re: outdone Mariner in a fraction of the time
I agree. But I suspect that AI is a very fast learner and there are dark forces in human form helping it along. That sounds rather melodromatic but is not far from the truth I bet. |
