The Bristol Brabazon
Haven't had too much time recently as I have been busy with many different things going on in life.

One of those things is a documentary on the Bristol Brabazon aircraft and what might have been had it not been cancelled. I have produced many images of the aircraft in various airline markings for the film but I thought i would post this image of the one and only Brabazon to have flown. It is shown as it flew in September 1949. The project was cancelled in July 1953 as the lead customer, BOAC, showed no interest with the new age of turbine engines coming along.

The film itself won't be ready for a while but I will post a link when it is ready.

Re: The Bristol Brabazon
Thanks Loyd
Many of the images and videos have been prepared and I have written and recorded the narration. All (?) I have to do now is the actual composition and editing. Will be busy for the next week prior to a trip to France so it will be roughly a month from now before I can make a start on that side of things.

So, if you’re going to hold your breath waiting for it, I would suggest a very deep one 🤣🤣

Tell me more, Ben. You drop me a pm if it’s too long.

Its too long ago to remember fine detail, I was only 7 when the family went to Bristol, where he lived, then on to an airfield a short drive from his house to see where my uncle worked. He was an electrical engineer, I remember at his house watching a green screen TV he had made from oscilloscope parts. It was late 1952 and remember he was upset as it seemed the Brabazon had no future.

Thanks for that Ben.
Unfortunately the Brabazon was designed at almost exactly the wrong time. If the war had never happened then the gestation of turbine engines would have been much later. Had it been designed a couple of years later then it would have been powered by either turboprop engines or even jet engines. The issue with that, though, is that it would have been in direct competition with the DH Comet and may still have been cancelled.

The story is, of course, much more complex but in the event it set Bristol on course to be a world leader in aviation.

Re: The Bristol Brabazon
I have been working steadily on my video of the history of the Bristol Brabazon aircraft. It has turned into a much larger project than I originally planned, hence nothing substantial has appeared yet. Still not sure when it will be finished but I thought I would post this image of the prototype and only flying example before its cancellation in the early 1950s.

Beautiful!

Was any real aircraft ever that shiny? I'd love to think so ........

Re: The Bristol Brabazon
Amazingly many aircraft were that reflective but the Brabazon was just plain, old unpolished aluminium. I wanted to have it very reflective for ‘artistic’ reasons ‘cos it looks so good.

I'd guessed that was the reason. You are more than forgiven ....

Re: The Bristol Brabazon
Gordon, this looks like a stunning project. I can't wait to see it when it is finished.

I must confess, when I saw what you were doing, I looked for a model of the aircraft and rendered it in Daz, remapped it and then spent ages posing it in various flight paths. What a beauty...and it was very shinny too!

I don't know whether your software can accommodate VBD's because I added them for vapour trails. Looked quite nice. Great job.

Re: The Bristol Brabazon
Thanks Denis

Progress is slower than I would like but I am getting there. Still amending the narration then ‘all’ I have to do is the editing and compositing😱

It's a pleasure Gordon. I take my hat off to you guys doing animation. It's such a lot of work and you have to know so much.

I have done quite a nice render of the aircraft. If you'd like to have a look at it, I'll post it here. I don't want to do so without your go ahead in case it's rude. What do I know, I'm a bit rough around the edges...lol. If you like it and feel you can use it, I'll send it to you. If you want me to do any other renders, just let me know.
