Among The Marshes
Here's a new piece; it incorporates techniques from Steve's books, and I enjoyed illustrating it. This one began with a photo I took while kayaking, which then became an illustration with no photographic elements remaining (100% Photoshop ). I'd hope this might provide a perspective many haven't seen, from the marshes of Delaware!

Tom that's beautifully done. I really like the sense of distance, and the way the river bends out of sight. The water texture is remarkably good; perhaps it might benefit from the addition of a few dimly-seen fish, to give it a sense of transparency.

Re: Among The Marshes
I would be hard put to guess this was an image without photographic elements. Very impressive.

I agree with Steve that just a hint of transparency in the water could be beneficial. The low angle means that reflections would dominate but there might well be some transparency in the darker shadowed areas.

Steve has also commented on the sense of depth. I wonder if a very slight lowering of contrast and desaturation of the colours on the the far left bank where it starts to disappear behind the foreground rushes might increase this.

These are quibbles Tom, and very personal. We each have our own way of interpreting. There's no right or wrong. This is lovely work.

Thank you Steve and David, these are great comments! Suggestions are always welcome, and quibbles often lead to improvements—it's definitely happened that way here before on past pieces I've put in.

I'll take these items under consideration for revisions. I do think the color in the area David mentions does look a bit supernatural, and could use adjustment.

Here it is again, with modifications. I've taken both of your suggestions, and improved the piece significantly.

Steve, I loved your idea and it makes a nice accent. Nothing too overt, just a bonus; an Easter egg.

David, you're absolutely right about the colors in that section. Thinking back, I recall picking a bright color during the process to remind me to revisit a detail there later, to sort of flag it. Then, I lost track of that and decided it was all right, and spread it around. But it wasn't all right; it was too iridescent and clashed with the naturalism all around it. It's much better now with that toned down.

The fish are very subtle. Nice work!

Re: Among The Marshes
Thanks, David—the color issue was a matter of not seeing the marsh for the rushes!
