Output Formats
Hello Steve.

I like very much the interlude sections in your book and if possible I would suggest to devote one such sections in your new book to the output formats and properties.

I know .. it is pretty straightforward when we create simple jpg graphics for web. But how about when we are trying to produce something for the print?

What kind of output format and colour setting to chose?
What kind of dimensions the source images should have to start with?
What resolution (dpi) the output files should have?
How to deliver our work to the client? (if the file is 60 MB for example)
How about the colour gamut?

Only my 2 cents. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with us!!

Re: Output Formats
Great suggestions. In fact, I've included a final chapter about getting stuff into print and the web, and how to prepare work for those media. So yes, it will go in!

Steve, this may be a little much but would it possible to include the color match between monitor and printer in this chapter?

Printing on your own printer is a real hassel sometimes. I have an Epson 500rx that came with Adobe print drivers, and alas I cannot get the monitor and printer to come close to color matching using this driver.

Re: Output Formats
Color matching is one of the black arts. I wouldn't even begin to know how to advise on it. Best bet is to crib from Harry Potter and the Halftone Prints when that comes out. (Joke copyright David Asch a couple of weeks ago.)

Seriously, the only way of making the thing match is loads of trial and error, and even then it won't look right. Certainly no room for that stuff in the book!

I was afraid that you would say that. Thought it would be worth a try.
