I haven't got the 2nd edition to hand but I assume you're referring to the glass bowl in front of the bookcase? To isolate the bowl itself, make sure you're on the correct layer, select the whole vase (CTRL+left click on its thumbnail icon), then select elliptical marquee, hold down SHIFT+ALT and drag out the marquee - line up the bottom of the ellipse with the base of the bowl (you can adjust the position by pressing the space bar), don't worry about getting the top aligned, as it will snap to the edges anyway. When you release the mouse, just the bowl will be selected. Hope this helps, David _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

Re: Pg. 162 step 2
Ah I see your problem here after consulting the book. There is a bit of an error in Step 2 where it explains to Command/Ctrl+click the thumbnail to select all of the vase and then using the Elliptical Marquee tool, holding down Command/Ctrl+Alt to limit the area to the bowl itself. The problem here is that Command/Ctrl+Alt activates the Duplicate tool. |

Re: Pg. 162 step 2
As you said you didn't have the book at hand, and as it turns out it was all just a typo. But your explaination covers it well anyway. (original post re-edited) |

I had the 1st edition but the page numbers are different, I was just guessing that it was the right tutorial ![]() _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

No, I'm not upset, we're here to help, the repetition just seemed a tad odd. _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

Re: Pg. 162 step 2
\original post deleted - everybody please accept my heartfelt apologies - not that it's an excuse but I was having a very difficult day due to having my stereo stolen from my car, and I shouldn't have brought bad feeling to an otherwise brilliant forum. I accept what Tabitha has said, and I agree with her fully - the idea of a montage fight intrigues me somewhat and one of which I would be a willing participant although Trinity is far better than I. Once again I apologise ![]() |

So how exactly does the Marquee tool work?? ![]() The "Head to Head" would be a great idea. Maybe we should beg Steve, while he is still in the Holiday spirit (and hopefully still full of the said spirit), to see if anything could be sorted out? Sorry to hear about your stereo. In April I had my car stolen and wrecked by teenage hooligans, I have never felt such hatred towards my fellow man as I did when trying to cart my 2 toddlers on a bus to the other side of town in the pouring rain, while the insurance company decided what they would do about it. It was not a good time for me, so I do empathise. Hope today is better |

Maiden/David, Well, after initial bafflement at the way this thread has been developing I went back and trawled through my emails to see what you'd actually been saying to each other. Heavens! This is worse than Brookside! Life's too short for spats like this. Maiden, apologise to David. David, apologise to Maiden. Now both of you shake hands. That's better. |

Yes of course you're right, Steve. We have already apologised to each other via PM and I posted an apology to the others in my edits (see above) To be honest it was all my fault due to me having a bad day (car stereo stolen) but I should never have brought that to the forum - I can be terribly immature at times, but I usually recover in time for supper ![]() |
