Perspective, Dimension, Destruction
Wow.. third edition!! Something to look forward to. I think the “How to Cheat in Photoshop” is by far the best Photoshop book when it comes to subject of creating convincing photomontages. So in my opinion there shouldn’t be too much coverage on subjects like colour corrections or restorations, as there are entire books dedicated solely to that area. Personally I would love to see more tutorials on how to work with perspective, as so far I deal with it only on trial and error basis. I would also greatly appreciate a brief introduction to Adobe Dimensions. For example the “Channel 4 Birthday cake” case study. It is all very clear, but I have no idea how to actually make the basic 3D model. Steve, I always liked your image of Mass Distraction in London. It looks freakishly convincing and it’s totally beyond me how did you actually make it. A tutorial on this image would blow me away.. ![]() I also agree with Maiden's suggestion regarding the photography for photomontage. So far I use only black paper backdrop to make the subsequent selection a bit easier. The only nitpick I found in the second edition was already mentioned by Trinity (pupil and iris swap). BTW Trinity.. I also miss the Mad Scientist case study. ![]() Anyway, only my two cents. ![]() Cheers |

Re: Perspective, Dimension, Destruction
John, Valuable comments, thanks. Yes, I agree, I will concentrate on the core stuff - there will be no sidelining into colour correction, as you say there are plenty of books already doing that stuff. Perspective will certainly be a big part of the next book, probably a whole chapter. I'd been toying with the idea of writing a whole book on perspective for photomontage, but I think it would work best as a chapter in here. There's a lot to explain! I have to admit, at this point, that I'm working on another book that I have to get finished before I can turn to a third edition in earnest, so it will be several months before I get to hack into it. In the meantime, all suggestions gratefully received! Steve |

Re: Perspective, Dimension, Destruction
an entire book on perspective for photomontage would rock !! The market is saturated with books that cover the gamut of photoshop tools and techniques -at the expense of any real detail - so specialisation is what is needed now to set a new book apart and make it a must-buy for those of us whose bookshelves are already straining under the weight of other competing tomes. Any hints on the title of the new book? Cheat in Illustrator?? (please!!) |
