New Book - Cover
OK, this may or may not be of interest to Steve.

I know you changed the cover - but are you aware of this new CS2 book by Dave Cross..

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0321337042/qid=1116755660/sr=1-30/ref=sr_1_0_30/026-2564001-7533264

Its not a million miles away from the last version you showed us,

Gah! that's a bit close for comfort. But Steve's cover is far superior - but then I would say that wouldn't I

Interesting, yes. But I think his cover does imply that his book's a little dull and worthy, wouldn't you say? Not a lot of fun in that one.

My cover's sparked up significantly since the version that was 'leaked' to you, helped greatly by maiden's suggestion for a reflection of the interface!

Here's the latest version:

Yes I agree your cover is really quite something now, the reflection works really well too.

BTW I have installed a Tryout version of CS2 from the Computer Arts Magazine and I'm already quite taken by it. But one thing is puzzling me, probably because I haven't researched it thoroughly enough, but with the Vanishing Point Tool is it possible to create a perspective grid taken from one layer to be used to correct the perspect of an image from another layer - because the Vanishing Point Window seems to flatten out all the layers. *shrugs*

Maiden, as far as I know (from videos and other tutorials), you can save and load the grids - not quite what you were asking but it may help!

Re: New Book - Cover
I think that would probably do the trick I'm working on an image at the moment for the b3ta friday challenge - Sony are giving away a free Playstation for the best image that represents Freedom incorporating their Playstation2 Freedom logo.

This is my image so far

I've yet to add a body to the jacket, I didn't want to get stuck in royalty/copy-right issues so I'll need either a royalty-free/copy-right free stock image or I'll have to shoot it myself - but who to photograph is the trick.

Anyhow if any of you lot want to try their hands at the challenge you'll need to join b3ta before Friday for obvious reasons and submit your entry http://www.b3ta.com - just a word of advice, as David will atest - b3ta can sometimes be very near to the knuckle with it's humour and often quite clichey regarding noobs (new members) so wear your extra strong body armour if you join and try to avoid getting in arguments as you'll always lose (I have many a war-wound for even trying to win an argument even with the advantage of logic and reasoned opinion)

You can use multiple layers with VP. Try copying a selection to the clipboard: make a new layer, then go into VP, and paste. You'll be able to see and set the perspective on the base layer, but all your work will be saved to the new one.

Thanks Steve that's what I was hoping to be able to do. Can you cut and paste a Smart Object in VP or does it need to be rasterized?

Re: New Book - Cover
Like video games Maiden? Anyhow, I wonder why they need a Playstation 2 logo when the PS3 is going to be out sometime pretty soon.

It's something to do with their website, yes the PS3 will probably on the market before Christmas, I expect.

Xbox have already launched a publicity campaign around their new Xbox 360 which will hit the shops soon enough and once again the war of the consoles will begin.

Yes I am a bit of a fan of video games, although no expert at playing them. I had an Xbox with Halo and The Thing and loved it to bits, however Xbox suffered by not having enough Fanstasy game titles, unlike PS2 which suffered for not having any real power-games (like Halo on the Xbox) that empathised it's graphics.

Technically the Xbox was better engineered, but PS2 had an overwhelming advantage of a very large fanbase and lots of game titles. The PS3 and the Xbox 360 will need be throwing out some graphic muscle and some big game names to compete this time around.

Anyway I like free stuff in competitions, not that I have ever won anything, ever.

Maiden,

The Playstation buttons are to bright on the right side. The d and o on freedom are oddly transparent, unless it was intended in which case do it for all letters. The words on the guys shirt don't seem to fit in color-wise. And what the heck does the guy have blood on his head for?

I did lots of research before spending my money, and I am quite happy with my choice of Xbox, as I truly believe it is a better console. But this new Xbox 360.....

Firstly the playstation buttons are painted in day-glo paint hence brighter in sunlight. The whole text of 'Freedom is Opinion' is set to soft-light with a second layer of the same text set to hard light, the reason why the d and o look more transparent is because that is where the light falls on the wall.

The colour of the Text on the jacket is from the original Playstation logo that Sony wanted included and I think it fits in very well.

And that isn't blood on his head it's red hair dye.

I can understand you're young Einstein but you're criticism is more personal opinion than constructive and can often be too harsh, in the same way that you said about MJ's snow-covered Mammoth looking 2D - we are all still learning here and our group support is needed else we will just scare off anybody who feels they aren't up to your high standards, Enistein.

As for the image I was too late in entering it (work getting in the way again) and the three winners were already decided - hey ho better luck next time.

Re: New Book - Cover
I'm sorry for having harsh critique, I never said I could do as good as anything I critique, just that I can see what does not look right about it to me.

But I will keep that in mind.

Thanks, marv. It's always a real struggle doing covers - much harder than writing the rest of the book!
