Contest 122: Let the lava flow
There were some interesting issues with lighting last week, and I thought we should have a go at turning a lamp on again. But rather than a straightforward light, it seemed a good idea to give the challenge an extra twist by making something more complicated. So what I'd like you to do this week is to build me a lava lamp, and place it on this table. How do you make the chrome base? How do you draw the lava inside? And how would it cast light and shadow on the walls? That's all up to you! High res is here. |

I agree Steve. I think I could use that tutorial from Toby. I didn't create mine from scratch, instead I found an internet pic of some spotlights and pasted them in but they looked very cheesy. I also wouldn't mind a tutorial on producing glints, starbursts, glowing orbs, as are so often used in the ethereal and surreal montages. If anyone has any pointers on these, I'd much appreciate it. Thanks. |

Sorry Steve, didn't like the wallpaper much, so I moved the table. Truth is I was struggling to work out which way the other wall was going (One too many beers last night I think!) Found this one really challenging - having to create an object from scratch. BB |

I do not have "Art" flowing in my veins, "Art" does not stay in the same room that I am in. Here is my try, it is not shiny metal, I worked with curves to try to make my "scratches" look metallic and failed miserably...I will keep trying. |

Whoops, There goes the power again. Have to switch to alternative lighting. Never really was much of a fan of lava lamps anyway. Didn't get to play last week, but happy birthday Steve. |

A greeting for all! how they are? Good, I confess that I have been two days fixedly hypnotized watching the lamp, and this is what it has suggested to me ..... |
