Contest 174: Public art
I went to Paris last weekend from the new Eurostar terminal at St Pancras station in London, which has had a multi-million pound overhaul to take the new tracks. One of the features is a huge and rather bizarre statue of two lovers in the main hall. Well, it's OK if you like Woolworths kitsch, but I think we can do better. So here's another photo of St Pancras, before the statue was installed. It's a slightly tricky angle, being shot from below; and, as you can see, the building work needs finishing off. But can you think of a more appropriate piece of public art for this space? High res is here. |

Re: Contest 174: Public art
I wouldn't normally attempt to pre-empt the criticism but I realise that almost everything about this is wrong - the perspective is tricky and I couldn't find the right photographs. Also, I didn't really know where the statue was supposed to go. I feebly added some sun rays to try and make it belong in the scene, which didn't work very well. But none of that really matters because all I wanted to do is have an ironic dig at Steve McLaren, who obviously doesn't deserve a statue at all. It would be good target practice though, as the man himself lounges on a beach in barbados... |

He Said No Photography allowed. Good job digitalis are silent. Getting perspective right was Difficult and mirroring the rove bit then deforming messed up the pixels. Any how I'm here to learn. |

Does she have VPL? http://www.flickr.com/photos/simonsdigitalworld/2040244979/ Haven't been able to enter the last few challenges for various reasons, hope to find time to work on this one (but no guarantees). By the way, had a phone call from the hospital earlier, I start on 3rd Dec! |

I have to echo Graham! I'm not sure where the statue goes! Is it just in the foreground of the structure?? _________________ "I haven't failed.... I've found 10,000 ways that don't work!" Thomas Edison |

Re: Contest 174: Public art
I googled St Pancras station. I googled Queen Elizabeth opening St Pancras Station. I even googled St Pancras the saint. None of this gave me any idea as to where the "as yet unthought of object" is to be placed and the big problem of perspective. This is a tough one. Abby-Helen |

Anyone understood any of this?? Ben, you're smack on with perspective! _________________ |
