Contest 186: Closing time
This 3D render was posted by Dave Cox a couple of weeks ago, with the suggestion that it would make a good Friday Challenge. Well, never one to turn down a good idea, I agree with him: so let's take this scene and make it look like a moody restaurant at closing time. Cue waiters, soft lighting, perhaps a lone couple at that table.

As well as the dining room image, I've included a separate file to use as an Alpha Channel in order to separate the room from its background. To use it, open the file DiningRoom_mask, Select All, and Copy. Then switch to DiningRoom_big, press Q to enter QuickMask mode, and Paste: you should find that when you exit QuickMask the tables and chairs will be selected, allowing the wall to be removed easily.

High res is here, and the mask is here.

The lone diner I found was in black and white, so I decided to go retro. Not sure the furniture or floor look that old, but still.

There is, of course, only one Restaurant to be seen in. It's at number 42.

Excellent book, radio series and tv series. Such a shame about the film!

Thank you James

Im sort of pretty happy with it..except for the curtain (which I made). I tried various things to make it look like thick heavy velvet but didnt quite achieve that. I think what lets it down is the "hem".

If anyone has any ideas on how I can fix that, feel free to let me know

Cheers Anna
I think you've made a marvellous job of the curtains and love the overall lighting effect achieved.

There is some really fabulous work here from everyone. I have to say that this left me stuck for ideas.

This is the restaurant in the center of the universe.

You know, these entries are like looking through beautiful postcards.

I came across these lovely ladies in a magazine my daughter lent me, and couldn't resist an other entry. Beach and sea is from one of Ted Eggs photos on the book CD. Surfer and palms added.
