Contest 208: Escher's stairs
Seeing Patrick33's entry in last week's Challenge made me remember something I came across recently - a version of Escher's famous staircase drawing, made entirely out of Lego. It's an astounding piece of work, that must have taken tremendous care and patience. It all would have been much easier in Photoshop, of course. Or would it? Just how difficult would it be to recreate this sort of perspective illusion? The tricky part is making the finished article look plausible. No starting image this week - so Google away! |

Let me just be clear - I'm not asking for a literal redrawing of the Escher image - rather, something of your own that makes similar use of confused surfaces! |

Okay, I guess I'll stick my neck out first. This image was only to test the concept but I got in too deep to start another image. (what were you expecting, stairs?)   |

Intrigue in multiple dimensions
Tough assignment. Probably the best I can do in short order. At first, I was having problems with lighting. Upon closer inspection, Escher didn't use consistent lighting, so I figured that if gravity doesn't work, neither should light!
Steve Mac, I think you achieved the effect marvelously. It also has that "cross-your-eyes-get-a-hidden-3D-effect" feel to it. The color choices seem perfect to me. Nick, I think your space is very effective. I especially like the way you made that staircase on the right move towards the spiral case. Maya, love the artwork. It has a special feel to it. Ben, love your new photo, makes me want a beer really badly...
