Well, here's my toss in the hat. I tried for a subtle theme. See if you can pick up on it. ![]() _________________ Sometimes you have to stand in your neighbor's backyard to get a good view of your own. raymardo |

Re: Contest 6: Shadowplay
Oops! I posted the wrong file earlier. Here's the correct one with a little blur applied to the shadow. Definitely helps, huh? ![]() _________________ Sometimes you have to stand in your neighbor's backyard to get a good view of your own. raymardo |

Re: Contest 6: Shadowplay
That's a very funky stencil you have there Raymardo - with the inclusion of the stylised font then the plastic effect of the stencil works well, in my opinion. Is that an Umpa Lumpa I see? Well done Tip: You can edit the url you posted by mistake using the 'Edit' link rather than starting a new post. |

Hi All Having spent the last 10 days hidden away in a Welsh farmhouse, 200 miles from my PC, I have been in need of my regular fix. So here's my attempt. I call it "Boredom" as I am sure that anyone who has ever had to sit through a VERY boring lecture/seminar can appreciate that playing with stencil shadows can be a real time waster. ![]() It is only a quicky as I am trying in vain to get my life in order after being away, ok maybe I need to get my priorities straight ![]() Have fun x ![]() |

That's great, very realistic. I like the bend you've put into it. You must have a lot of experience with stencil shadows ![]() _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

Re: Contest 6: Shadowplay
That is great Tabitha, the most realistic one I've seen so far. And the choice of backdrop fit nicely. |

Re: Contest 6: Shadowplay
Great work from everybody on this one - some really nice results. Great texture, Atomic, but don't you think the head-on view is a little artificial-looking? And I think you'd find that middle finger ought to be behind the plastic, rather than in front... good shading, though. Trinity, your first go had the perspective of the stencil going the wrong way, surely? Strangely, maiden chose exactly the same perspective. Odd, that. Second go was much more convincing. A nice detailed entry from Kathryn, but you made a mistake with the shading: we're looking across a 3D desk, but the shadow is on a flat surface an inch beneath the stencil. Using the lettering for the cat title was a really nice touch, though. uk2usadaz your entry seems to have disappeared - can you edit your post and put it back? Tweaknik, that's a fantastic entry. I really like the way you've used the hand to make its own stencil, it's much better than that boring alphabet. The lighting and shadows are perfect - a really nice piece of work. Ryan, a nicely balanced montage, good shadows and great overall shape. I think my shirt cuff maybe a couple of sizes too big, but no doubt I'll grow into it. Some nice calligraphy from raymardo, a great improvement on the original lettering. Great texture, too - but I think your original version was better: the stencil is near enough to the tabletop to cast a pretty crisp shadow. And an ingenious solution from Tabitha, which manages to combine a direct shadow with a distance shot for the background, making the whole thing less claustrophobic. That one was worth coming out of a Welsh farmhouse for! Another good week all round. |

Re: Contest 6: Shadowplay
Yes looking back at my image the shadow's perspective is wrong - I didn't put much heart into this one and simply Perspective Free Transformed the shadow to be falling away to the left as I figured that the stencil would be further away from the backdrop than the hand, not realising that it distorted the actually perspective of the stencil incorrectly. |

Ah, got it! Very nice indeed, a great approach. Love the details - the eraser dust is particularly convincing, and the sketch filter works perfectly on that drawing. Great work! |
