Well I don't think it does really matter. Although this website is about How to Cheat in Photoshop it doesn't mean that stuff created in other packages aren't worthwhile images. _________________ mad as a badger and twice as furry |

Re: Contest 27: quad bike fun
Totally agree with you there Becky. Chris, yr image is good, and different from the others. It gets a little hard when there are lots more images posted before yours and you have to try and get a new twist on the same idea. Tell me about it, I usually leave it so late in the week that I can't even think of something to create! I have to say that maybe constructive critisism (is that spelt right?? ) is called for in this instance Atomicfog, your comment does come across as slightly "superior"... Edit - Ok downright rude!! |

Tabitha, I appreciate your kind comments. Thanks. Maybe I should wait until I have the experience and skill level before posting in future. Atomic is probably right my image does look pretty poor in comparison. Maybe I should stick to what I know eh ! _________________ Eagles may soar high, but weasels dont get sucked into Jet engines. Re: Contest 27: quad bike fun
Don't you dare Chris (being an assertive female here Grrrrrrrrrr.... ), this is a forum where ANYBODY can post their images, regardless of ability and experience... thats what makes it such a good forum for us amatuers (sorry my spelling is appalling today!). You image is good and shows imaginaton, and to be honest I love yr banner (I am hopeless at fabric!!). If Atomicfog had wanted to be at all helpful then maybe he could have mentioned that maybe your mud needed a bit of texture, but in all it is of no less standard than any other posted on this board, and indeed this Friday Challenge. Before you make your judgement about posting again, wait to see what Steve says on Friday, after-all it is he's crit that we all value as he is the professional amoung us _________________ "There are only two things a child will share willingly; communicable diseases and its mother's age." Re: Contest 27: quad bike fun
Chris Pucci removed his image after a somewhat injudicious comment by another regular, because he felt it wasn't up to the standard of the rest of the forum. I started off sending a Private Message to Chris to ask him to put his image back here, then thought I should make it public because I think this applies to everyone. There's a wide range of abilities here at the forum, and I'd hate those new to Photoshop to feel they couldn't take part because they believed their work to be in some way inferior. Everyone's welcome to join in, and everyone's artwork is valid: it's not just a question of technique, it's a matter of inspiration and humour, too. No-one should feel daunted by the high standard of some of the entries, and there's a good reason why. Chris's entry was a good idea, which may have had one or two flaws in its construction. Surely, rather than rubbishing it - and having the effect of Chris removing it through lack of confidence - it should remain here, so we can talk about what distinguishes a convincing montage from one that doesn't quite work. This is where the forum really becomes instructive: not from looking at those montages which are perfect, but by looking at how we can improve those that aren't. This forum has always been about the free interchange of ideas, and about members helping others to improve their Photoshop skills. If we start doubting our abilities to the extent of not entering the Challenges, then there's no point to their existence. This isn't b3ta: it's not about competition, which is why we have no winners or losers. Everyone who posts here does so expecting, and I would hope welcoming, constructive criticism. If one of us posts an ambitious entry which is just beyond our current skill level, then surely it's up to the rest of us to offer advice rather than condemnation. Let's see it again, Chris. You're too valuable a contributor to lose. |

Re: Contest 27: quad bike fun
I don't know, I turn my computer off for a day and then I go and miss THIS WEEKS fight I'd like to say this, as someone who DOES make a living out of this silly package we all like to use. This forum is great as far as I'm concerned, there are some people on this forum who could possibly make a living out of this (and you know who you are) and there are complete beginners too. We all had to start somewhere (too right David) but....... I teach this stuff and am forever inviting my students to learn, from PEER crits, from tutor crits, and from themselves. Chris, don't be disheartened, put your work back up and learn, Atomic, learn how to give CONSTRUCTIVE feedback not snipes. Finally, I use and shall continue to use whatever package that helps me to get the image I want, who said this place is exclusive to photoshop ?, there's a certain author I've heard of who uses Adobe Dimensions to get results in his work (and you can't even buy it anymore) if a package gives me the results then fine.. if not then I wont use it. I though this place was supposed to be fun I was typing this whilst Steve put up the last comment - Mr Caplin, HEAR HEAR I couldn't agree more _________________ most of the lack of sunshine in our lives is caused by us standing in our own shadow |

Re: Contest 27: quad bike fun
Absolutely right, I think some people may have become a little too precious about the forum, particularly the Friday Challenges, they are not contests, well certainly not in the same way that Worth1000 is, for instance. That is a competitive site, this isn't - we're here to display, comment, help and learn. It's a friendly place, based around an highly educational book. Chris, as has been said, repost your image and put this little spat behind you, the last thing we want, is for people to pack up their Tools Palette and leave on the strength of a misplaced comment! _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

Re: Contest 27: quad bike fun
Firstly, thanks all for the advice etc. Like I said to Steve, Atomic was right in that the image was a very poor one (I am sure he/she meant no offence anyway) I pulled the image down in the end as I felt the thread was moving away from being a Friday challenge and more about what had been said and I felt this was the best way to diffuse it. I am not ashamed that my competence is far less than anyone else on the forum, given that I have only been using Photoshop (And yes I did use Photoshop not paint) for 3 months at most 5hrs a week if I am lucky. I do feel maybe that it devalues the challenge the kind of level I am at. Maybe I should wait until my skill level increases after all there are plenty of other areas on the forum I can get help and instruction as part of the learning process. Steve it might be an idea if possible to move this discussion to another area of the forum so as not to detract further from the challenge. First time visitors might think were all crazy. Thanks to all of you for words of encouragement! :thumb up smilie: _________________ Eagles may soar high, but weasels dont get sucked into Jet engines. David Brent -The Office |

Re: Contest 27: quad bike fun
Chris, I have to disagree - the Friday Challenge is, and must be, for all users of every skill level. If we adopted an elitist approach this forum would serve no purpose other than to be merely self-congratulatory. Please don't feel your Photoshop competence isn't up to scratch. That's not what it's all about. And yes, this discussion may have taken over this thread for a couple of days, but this stuff needs to be said. We need your input here! Steve |

Chris, If you do not get feedback from those that have more experience and are willing to give contructive criti's, you will not learn as fast. Retarding you education in PS by a rude crit will not benifit your continuing education. Steve Caplin WANTS you to benifit here. Everyone here WANTS you to benifit. I get few crits from the folks here mostly because I am not a vocal person. I don't feel slighted at all. I welcome all crits and try to look at my work through their eyes. Having said all this Please repost you image. MJ> _________________ -Never met a PS'er I didn't like- Will Rogers |

Re: Contest 27: quad bike fun
MJ you may have knocked the nail on the head with your comment about getting few crits, maybe all us "users" should start giving constructive critisism (Note CONSTRUCTIVE), regardless of ability or standard?? I have just read through some of the previous Friday Challenges (hey when insomnia hits... it hits HARD!!), and in most instances its just a thread of images posted and we all sit tight for Friday morning and Steve's post. There are a few comments here and there but unless asked we seem all pretty lothe to add anything, and yet if the image were posted in the Readers Gallery or Image Doctor, hey we would all be there right?? This week, we seem to have gone mad, and although Atomicfog's comment wasn't very helpful, it has at least prompted us to think about what we are doing. So maybe guys we should all start adding our 10p (or 10c) worth, then this may get the feelings away from being a competition into the helpfull, fun topic that it should be. I am not sure whether any of this makes sense, it is 2.30am after-all _________________ "There are only two things a child will share willingly; communicable diseases and its mother's age."
