Re: Contest 42: A room with a view
Who'd have thought a house on wheels would spark off so many inspired montages! A really wide selection this week, with some truly great entries.

Glen was first off the mark with That Man Again. He does fit perfectly in that window, though, and the subtle darkening of his lower half does put him firmly behind the glass. But it's the cyclist that's the real genius here. A truly expert cutout, and the way you've done the blur through the wheels is fantastic. Nice one, Glen.

Very nice demolition job by MJ. The cracking on the walls and windows is great, and the angle of the house work well with the hole. Not sure about the cutout on the underside, though - and a shadow would really have helped this one along. Good idea. though.

I hope no structural engineers visit this forum, because johnwhite's house looks to be in serious danger of dropping off at any minute. It might help if those wooden beams were actually embedded in the rock, rather than simply resting on it! Still, at least it's got a nice soft place to land.

A couple of really fine montages from Neal, covering the house's extraterrestrial exploits. The first is really fantastic: look at the way the house fits the perspective of the scene and the trailer absolutely perfectly. Then notice the shadows: botht he one of the man in front, and the diagonal shadow of the roof on the wall to match the brightness of the sun. And in the second montage, the tone of the building corresponds with the shading on the shuttle wing in the foreground; the bits equipment on the base match the perspective perfectly again. Earned your title once more, Neal.

I'm always impressed when someone completely deconstructs and then reassembles an image from a different angle, especially when it's done with the finesse that tweaknik has shown here. The angles are perfect on both walls, the roof looks like it was photographed on there, and tucking the house behind the statue gives it a tremendous feeling of belonging in the space. This is truly excellent work, and in the age-old tradition that began last week I'm hereby awarding tweaknik the title of Pixel Perfector, effective immediately.

Atomicfog's structural dynamics are better than johnwhite's, but I still feel the health and safety inspectors would take issue with this one. Great idea, but a couple of points: shouldn't the guy's right arm (and perhaps leg) be behind the door frame? Shouldn't his hand by on the doorknob? And why is the building so blurred?

Always great to welcome a new member, and kat's first entry is a real treat. It's a gag which makes its point immediately, and the angles are just perfect. Slight problem with the shadow, there: the front wheel of the truck appears to be floating. If something's on the ground, it must be touching its shadow! Neat papering job, though, and I'm sure it will make a fine extension.

A greatly populated scene from eventer, with a neatly constructed boathouse made from doubling the end of the building. Not sure about the filter on the second version, though: it seems to add blur without making it look like it's been painted. Still, glad your injuries are better!

An absolutely charming entry from julie, with a beachfront property delicately poised on the rocks. It's a good joke (although I'd like to have seen a glimpse of the other half crashign into the waves), but what I really like here is the delicate toning: the building blends in perfectly (good masking around the bottom edge, there) and the overall feel is totally unified. Great job.

Dezolat0r, if you'd been awarded a title in the past I'd ritually strip you of it on the spot, breaking your sword across my knee and ripping your epaulettes from your shoulders. I mean, I'm glad you're enjoying CS2 and everything, but there are some things the Vanishing Point filter just isn't meant to do!!!

Amazon.ca says my cs2 will ship between May 11 and 25th - I can't wait to do things I am not meant to with my Vanishing Filter

Is there an adjustment that would make the 'paint' look more realistic on my ark? I was sooooo impressed by David's figure made up from photographs and have been trying to make the same type of conversions from photo to drawing ever since. The best result on a 'whole' photo was 'poster edges', but it's much harder to match a single piece into a drawing. Sorry, I am probably asking the wrong thing in the wrong place again.
