Re: Contest 114: Rebuild the WTC
Wonderful submissions everyone! J.harvett, great work on the sphere! Sorry that mine is similar...you just beat me to the draw! Regarding my submission: Of course I wouldn't want to flood NY as a memorial to those lost on 9-11. I just think the water interacting with the light and sphere added a nice effect to the layout. I really enjoyed playing with my submission this week. --Chris |

Re: Contest 114: Rebuild the WTC
Thanks for the warm compliment, Deborah! To be honest... I sort of cheated this week's challenge... I've been teaching myself a new program, Vue Infinite. It's been a godsend on logo creations and coming up with corporate identities when it comes to text effects and lighting. I used a small amount of Photoshop work for this week. Also, my entries for "The Invisible Man" and "Camera Obscura" have been with Vue. The background only for "Camera Obscura", though. The rest was with Photoshop. --Chris |

Here's the "before render" shot... It took nearly 37 minutes to finish! |

I'm sorry but I have to say that I find this a huge disrepect to the people that died that day, the majority of us want to put this sort of thing behind us. Escepically you David Urquhart. I don't mean to make enemies but I just don't think that this contest was appropriate in the slightest. |

Tank 172 - Fabulous work there - this is the second week running I've pre-empted someone else's idea which is slightly worrying - is there such a thing as precognitive plagiarism ? _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

I have to disagree Redrum, I think all the submissions have been both respectful and thoughtful - and on my part considerably restrained. _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

Re: Contest 114: Rebuild the WTC
Thank you, j.harvatt! Personally, redrum, if I were asked to design a memorial for anyone who lost their life, I wouldn't hesitate. In fact, I would be honored. To me, memorials are about rememberence and respect to the person who has died; as well as offering closure to the friends and families of those who knew that person. Sometimes a picture, artifact, or memorial is what would be needed for a person to fully come to terms with the loss. In some ways, it also allows the person to move on with their life. I respectfully disagree with your statement. Memorials are built each day whether it be for one person or four thousand. It is my opinion that a memorial for 9-11 is not only respectful, but also necessary for proper healing. I don't feel you would make enemies on this site. Also, please don't take my opinions the wrong way. --Chris |

Re: Contest 114: Rebuild the WTC
I was somewhat uncomfortable with this weeks challenge so I chose to stay out. I think most entries were handled very respectfully. I also have a bit of a problem with this subject being handled in a way where a smiley face is added at the end of the post. We all come here to showcase our photoshop talents and learn from eachother but just because you know how to do something it doesn't necessarily mean that it is the appropriate thing to do. |

Re: Contest 114: Rebuild the WTC
This was a blindingly clever choice from Steve: It was--I felt--"technically" difficult and challanging from the start, and I had to make a concerted effort to achieve anything; moreover, it had to be done in a way that was respectful. A tough one! I came across this space image of "Ground-zero" and thought it might give perspective to those who had not entered yet. |

Re: Contest 114: Rebuild the WTC
I indirectly lost a friend in that event, a friend of a friend, you know... For me, Chris is right. Each person lives through this kind of thing his/her own way. A memorial is a good way to do that, and so is this contest. It jsut may not appeal to everyone, that's all. I just have no idea what to do for this week... _________________ |
