Re: Contest 123: Let the lava flow
This is getting bad. Last night while sleeping, it dawned on me what to do before using curves to create metal. Here is my new attempt...I still have much to learn...Had I built the cap and base with the same gradient, applied curves, then separated, it would have come out better. |

Small is the worth of beauty from the light retir'd. Bid her come forth, Suffer herself to be desir'd And not blush so to be admir'd. Edmund Waller 1606-1687 Yep, that'll work. Wrap it up! |

I don't understand why anyone would make a lamp with lava, they make a terrible mess when they erupt. |

Just a quaint environment. Wish I could make the lava blobs more real. |

The lava gherkin's a great idea eggbox! Any plans to market it? As for mine, enough's enough, I get the feeling I could tweak this all week and still not get it right! |

This was fun. ( 100% PS ) Hardest part; Trying to get the ellipses right for the metal rims. Edit: Just made a slight update to the large image. Full view 182kb, here. Detail 106kb, here. |

James, make a selection on a blank layer. With the selection active, draw a gradient through it. |

Re: Contest 123: Let the lava flow
Gorgeous lamp Tom! James, I get a complicated shape to look symmetrical by drawing only one side with the pen tool. I close the path through the center, and then duplicate and flip the copy of the image to create the other side. Fill in the center if needed, and touch up the top and bottom with the ellipse marquee. Both glass parts of the lamp in my entry were drawn this way. |

Re: Contest 123: Let the lava flow
I was never happy with either the lighting or the metal on the first post but found some time to, hopefully, fix both. |

Re: Contest 123: Let the lava flow
Sorry can't stand this wallpaper any longer. In the time it has taken to try and get the chrome right I could have decorated a real room! Lost a lot of colour when I tried to post just now, so saved it differently but have still lost colour-mainly the pink. |

Very nice Deborah. I actually did that for real to the wallpaper in the main bedroom of a house that I bought in 1985!!!! Come to think of it - it's the same pattern! Gordon |

Spotlight on the lava lamp, the centerpiece of all the attention (at least this week). _________________ Only in my brightest moments I understand myself |

Re: Contest 123: Let the lava flow
When I observed the lava lamp in the shops yesterday, apart from the base globule, it was the tops of the loose "globules" that had the highlights not the bottoms. |
