Thanks Neal,

Here's how I distressed that wall.
On top of the original photograph, I put a hue saturation adjustment layer. Blending Mode Hard light, Saturation= 0.
Then above that, a photograph of an old wall. It was quite contrasty, almost black and whitish, so a blending mode of Multiply did the trick.

Same thing for the pipes. A picture of a rusty metal surface set to Hard Light (with layer mask of course to mask the wall)

A 'surveillance' mirror helps you keep track of things when you are below street level. And new architecture enhances the old buildings.
