They say you are as old as you feel. Well with two hands you can feel a whole lot older. |

Re: Contest 151: Putting on the years
I'm off now for three weeks working at the Lawn Tennis Championships at Wimbledon. Some say as a substitute net, some say as a target and others as the oldest ball boy in the business. I'm in the team organising player and VIP transport. Long days but I'll play in this court when I can. Ted |

Re: Contest 151: Putting on the years
Here is my attempt. Viewing the previous entries, it would appear that the years have not been kind to you Steve. I'm not sure that I would want the characters here doing this to me. You are a really good sport. 2bfree, you said you spent a lot of time removing the hand. You did a very good job. I am curious to know how you did it. I copied the right side to the left, distorted it to fit, and then removed what I didn't need with a soft brush eraser. If any one is interested, here is a really good on aging that I found. http://www.worth1000.com/tutorial.asp?sid=161116 |

Re: Contest 151: Putting on the years
Dave, I like your entry it is very good. I don't know why I decided to remove the hand first, other than I had ideas of an animation. ( ran out of time for that) I masked out the hand and arm, cut out and fit pieces of the shirt, distorted and skewed to get them to fit. I did the same as you with the rest of the face, distorting and removing so it would not look the same, I then removed a slight bit of the hair on the hand side to make it look different. the neck and chest were the most difficult for me. In my second entry I attempted to add wrinkles, heavier stubble, and used the liquify filter to get some sag to the face. |

Dirtdoctor23 (Neil), Now that is what I need to learn, it is amazing the way you did the wrinkles and skin. |

Re: Contest 151: Putting on the years
Thanks 2bfree. I pretty much did the same thing with the neck and the shirt, except that I flipped each of those areas separately, so I could get the correct distortion. Then I decided that a sweater and a t-shirt would look more fitting here, so I drew them in over the old. Neil, good job with the wrinkles. |

Wayne, you are not alone. The only picture I have seen from Steve's book is this one. _________________ Steve Mac |

Neil, that is fantastic. Is there a space to which you could load the full layered PSD of 'ole Steve so we could study it closer? Ted |

Re: Contest 151: Putting on the years
Ted, It's nothing really complicated. I cut the arm(hand) to its own layer, and the same to the head and neck area. Used a small amount of the liquify filter on each to distort and "puff up" the nose, ears, knuckles, chin, etc. and droop the eyes, brows, lips, and chin. Then the rest is just dodge and burn a little at a time following the existing (fine) lines shown on his young face (as nature would do). If you would like I would be happy to e-mail you the PSD. _________________ "I haven't failed.... I've found 10,000 ways that don't work!" Thomas Edison |
