Re: Contest 160: Bedroom scene
Hi Anna, Tracy Emin and Damien Hirst are a couple of our more infamous modern artists here in the UK. Damien Hirst gained some notoriety with subjects such as a cow in formaldehyde in a tank. There was also a shark and this sheep. He recently did a skull studded with diamonds which is supposedly worth gazillions......but only if someone is willing to pay for it! Tracy Emin is another 'concept artist' probably most 'famous' for her 'un-made bed'. That is literally what it is - an unmade bed. Their work is not to everyone's taste and their art makes many people think of 'the King's new clothes' story. Both have relied on Charles Saatchi to purchase much of their work so, in many ways beauty is in the eye of just one beholder although Damien Hirst has rather fallen out with him of late. Just type their names into Google and you'll find out more. I did wonder if my post might be 'lost' on non-Brits. Just shows that they have still got a way to go before they aspire to the fame of the artists of the Renaissance or the Dutch Masters. Gordon |

Thanks for that Gordon, I did look them up. Certainly different. I remember seeing the diamond studded skull on tv sometime ago. You have even used the wallpaper LSD Damien did. Really good! |

David when you moved into your "des-res" (to be renovated of course), it appears you took on sitting tenants. Updated: Click the pic for a big-un |

Love it GKB. Actually I hear from friends that Tracy Emin is very nice as a person and although it is not particularly to my taste I do think she is quite sincere with her work. I once bumped into her (literally) once in a crowd and hoped that some of her fortune would rub off but I'm still waiting... Enuff of that, here is my offering for this week, not entirely convincing I have to say but never mind. _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

Josephine, Thanks for that. Please don't think I was being overly critical. I just am not keen on that kind of art. Each to his own as they say. Love the big, bad wolf in granny's clothing. Gordon |

When they said "You're going to the sea bed", I didn't know this was what they had in mind! (Thanks to my husband David for the idea!) _________________ Wrinkled was not one of the things I wanted to be when I grew up ... |

Vibeke, your grandchildren look so peaceful sleeping there in that bed..and the little baby..so precious. Really lovely. Neil, I lost it when I saw Dubya in bed with the goat. You just dont even want to think about it |

Neal, I'd like to know how much you had to pay that poor sheep to do something like that! |
