Thanks to Elliott for the advice re print screen, it worked and that will come in handy for the future.

I won't be able to work on this during the week and have been struggling for ideas. I've come up with brain-stack and here it is.

Hope you're feeling much better Steve

Nick

Thanks to Apple's Applescript, I extrated the different images from Steve's movie and placed tehm on a friend's server. The images are TIFF files in greyscale color space to save space. Download the images and open them in Photoshop.

I an idea pops into my head soon.

Re: Contest 182: Use my head
It's seldom that I actually laugh out loud at a Friday Challenge, but Ben Mills' entry is just hilarious. I think it's the hair and the eyelashes that really works for me - as well, of course, as the eyes and the teeth. What a wonderful start to the week!

A doctor's surgery from Elliott, with a series of scans on view. When blowing up a small image to make a background like this, you always get pixellated distortion; the answer is to blur the background, which will both hide the artefacts and add a sense of distance. And, given the perspective of the room, matching it on the scans would have helped greatly with the overall effect. But I had to double-check the original in your second entry to make sure you hadn't put the Snowman in there - good grief! What an observation!

Subtle work from Steve Mac, with the glimmer of a lit lamp appearing in neat distortion. And some very tasteful colouring on the head, too, making this an appealing and intriguing image. The movie bar and caption help greatly, of course.

A host of inspired entries from tooquilos, with just about every popular doctor offering an opinion (and a witch for good measure). I particularly enjoyed Dr Nick, Dr McCoy and Hippocrates! Anna, you've really worked on this one - and I greatly appreciate it!

I like the bronze trophy Neil O has come up with - some good use of Curves there, although I'd have added a touch of Dodge and Burn to put a few highlights in. Most intrigued about the trophy base, which appears to be an upturned antique Japanese tea cup. And why not.

A three dimensional approach from Nick Curtain, assembling the various slices of my brain into a layered stack. Very well achieved perspective, and it was a good idea to use the texture of a Lens Flare layer to tie them all together. Perhaps a couple of Lens Flares too far, do you think?

A unique approach from brewell, who's taken the top-down view and built a whole scene around it. Excellent colouring, particularly around the eyes, and I like the swirling ideas inside the head (and a great left brain/right brain divide). That duck seems to be existing outside Photoshop - what can I be doing to it?

Another left/right split from Abby-Helen Artfield, with a tasty dollop of Plastic Wrap to liven things up - although, personally, I'd have confined this to the brain, rather than adding it to the skull as well. Intriguing symbolism, especially the escaping scorpion!

Another three dimensional version from gaoxiguo, and there's a real sense of a solid model here. I think the horizontal stripes in the background are distracting, though: they interfere with the horizontal lines in the scans.

A rather psychedelic interpretation from Deborah Morley, which I'd guess has been achieved by overlaying outlined versions of the scan on top of each other. There's an H R Giger feel to this, aided by the symmetry imposed on it. Not sure about the yellow/blue colour combination, though!

Several different scans masquerading as undersea critters in katew's inspired entry - and yes, Kate, your husband does have a point! Very fine colouring, and - as ever - the illusion is completed by tucking the scans behind bits of the structure (and, I have to say, this is a perfectly chosen background image). I particularly like the one with tentacles in the distance. Very subtle, accomplished work.

I've always been fond of Star Trek, and Wayne's entry brings me as close as I'm going to get to appearing in it. I have to say, I do make rather a good planet. Of course, it's the subtlety of the colouring that makes this one work so well - and the just out of frame Lens Flare, which adds intrigue. Great stuff.

Some real genius from Neal: as ever, it's the meticulous attention to detail that makes this one work so well. Dr House slots neatly behind the vertical dividers in the window; the beer cans appear in perspective on the shelf, with a crumpled can in the foreground; eBay on the screen to the right. Best of all, for me, is the lighting on the underside of the hand playing noughts and crosses on the scan screen, reflecting the light from the screen. Terrific work, Neal - and thanks for providing a more accessible version of the scans.

Cheers for the comments Steve. Agree that I may have overdone the flare a tad. Hope you are now fully recovered.

Yes, but only after a series of near-fatal errors of judgement involving broad-spectrum antibiotics before they break into my house, collect some mouse droppings and realize I had Lupus all along.

Re: Contest 182: Use my head
LOL @ Steve!

Thanks for the comments. I didn't think I'd done that well on this one, so I'm glad you like it. I did the toning by copying the background to the layer above the one with the scans on, then reducing the opacity.
