With a little help from a ready-made... Not the film but the book. I might post the picture on its own a little later as it is not easy to see in this image.

Re: Challenge 346: The Nereid Monument
Not been here for a while, off work at the moment, as I'm having a few problems, so been trying to get back into photoshop. The background is one I created using a tutorial I found somewhere on the internet, I'd kept the psd file so I added the monument into it.

Good to see you back Simon. Hope not to serious.

Here my attempt. Maybe I should try another. Too loose. But its based on Delphi - Greece http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delphi a very interesting, beautiful historic place... and for me The Three Sirens of Homer's Odyssey, Σειρῆνες http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siren, though not connected I think....

Re: Challenge 346: The Nereid Monument
Just some health problems, down to an anxiety disorder, something I've had to deal with for a lot of my life, but just been getting worse over the last few months. Can't work with it at the moment. Taken me all my time to even do anything i enjoy, like photoshop. Hopefully seeing a councellor soon so things may improve
thanks for asking

Simon

Sophie...The music is "On Heaven as it is in Earth" from the movie "The Mission" with Robert DeNiro. Ennio Morricone did the score for it.

Deb..I used After Effects for the lighting. Effects<Generate Light Rays

Simon I hope things start to pick up for you soon. Just do what you can.

Brilliant Ben, beautifully done. What a laugh.

Like yours too Angela.

My sympathies too Simon, it's a horrible thing to live with.

Thanks, Sophie.

Ben - fantastic idea. Very nicely done.

Simon - hang on in there. Been there and come out the other side. Counselling worked very well for me.

Angela

This is the picture I used in the book image, earlier. Now it will be easier to spot all my mistakes...

Some fantastic work from you fine people ... I decided to restore the monument from scratch using new materials (which should last a lifetime).
Once I thought of this idea it wouldn't Lego ... sorry couldn't resist!

Re: Challenge 346: The Nereid Monument
Sorry I post a bit too much sometimes. Hope this gets covered soon.
Great creative entries all if I might say.. on the last few, Angela the book was fine, Big Vern, you made me laugh and I guess 100% PS? Marty, love the composition and content; Steve might have few small comments on shadow, but I'm not sure what? , Tomasz, great powerful image! I like a lot! In contrast to François's beautiful image which lets me sleep in peace, beautiful, until I dream of Tomasz's and my Sirens

Trevor, Thanks for your kind words. I fiddled with the placement and size of the shadow for quite a while. We will have to see what the Teacher says.

Re: Challenge 346: The Nereid Monument
First to repair the monument this week was tomiloi, who has moved it to a hillside - a great location, as our position down the hill matches the angle of view of the original scene. The building has also been distorted slightly to emphasise the angle, which works well. I like the added sides, especially as seen through the building. A good approach.

A clutch of ancient Greeks from Ben Mills, standing around a picnic that seems to comprise potted plants and balusters. Delicious. Did they really use starfish as brooches? A fine collection of costumes, but having them all in a line like that seems a little artificial. when working with multiple people, you need to make them all interact and be looking at one another: If they were bunched into more of a group it might be easier. A great kebab shop, though! I like the estate agent poster in the second entry - perhaps it should mention "in need of modernisation"...

A rather magnificent temple nestling in the clouds from tooquilos, with fantastic lighting and colouring. The replaced figures work really well, but is the central character perhaps more Indian than Greek? Beautiful work in the animated version, choc full of special effects - what fun!

A pretty underwater scene from michael sinclair, whose temple has become a decoration in a fish tank - where it does look rather good. Is that a real fish tank? Or a screen saver? So hard to tell...

A classical reconstruction from joeysala, who has neatly replaced the figures with her great grandfather's sculptures - what a lucky find! They match the building perfectly! Slightly too heavy shading on the far right and left, though: I can see why you've done this, but remember they are right in the front, even in front of those columns. A very clever match.

Where does a former president go when he's deposed? To a suburban street, according to brewell, where he does his best to blend in. And as well as being a good gag, this is an extraordinary thorough piece of work. Not only has the perspective been adjusted to match the view of the street, the building has also been fully restored - as have the statues. And I really like that strong shadow on the right, which seems to tie the building into the street beautifully. My only slight concern is that the door seems a little too far to the right for such a front-on view, but maybe that's unavoidable.

A pastoral setting from PDelavigne, with a decidedly modern piece of farm equipment and a couple of well-judged cows. I like the light rays, and the way the side of the building has been built up - nice work. And all makes sense with the inclusion of the second entry - a great use of the Symbol font!

A workshop setting from Eggbox, in the early stages of restoration: a pair of tweezers is coming in from the left holding a new head. I like the idea, Ted, but the perspective in your background shot is way out: you have the work bench sloping up, where all the equivalent lines in the monument are sloping down. It makes it rather uncomfortable to look at!

I was a little confused by the violence of Daniel's entry, with its scantily-clad maiden being attacked by two equally undressed sword-wielding aggressors. But then I took another look at the inspiration, and it all started to make much more sense - even down to the transparency of the clothing (although I would argue that in the original the figure on the right is clearly, um, male). Great flames, but shouldn't all that fire illuminate the monument a little more? And I'd really like to see more expression on the faces of the Poser figures!

Good work from puffin31939, who has placed the temple and accompanying text into a hardback book. I like the realism of this, except I'd far prefer to see the temple unrotated - I can't think of many books where you have to turn the page to view a picture. Especially, since it would have been easy to crop the shot to a portrait orientation. Glad to see those fullmontage readymades are proving useful! And good to see the statue renovation in the second entry - actually, this works really well!

High drama from salfordnurse - good to see you back, Simon. It's a splendid setting, and a beautiful image altogether. If you wanted to set about restoration, though, it seems to me your photos of Trafford on your Flickr site seem have plenty of source material!

I'd been going to compliment Jota120 on his reshaping of the building to match the new perspective, when I realised that this is in fact a different building altogether - or, at least, the front is. Our monument is nestled inside it. I like the mystic light coming from your sirens, Trevor, but... are they wearing sunglasses?

I was most amused by BigVern's Lego-based entry - most entertaining! But there are Lego programs out there that will let you construct such a model using virtual bricks, and view it from any angle: perhaps you should take a look, it would be interesting to see if you could match the perspective of the original.

I didn't make it to the art museum when I was in Denver, but Marty's entry is a great assembly of classical sculptures and paintings - complete with our temple on the far wall. I really like the arrangement here, and the clean lines of the room. My only problem is with the shadow of the sculpture, which seems just too long and too strong: a room like this will have lights all over it, surely, which would diffuse this shadow to a high extent.

A real nightmarish vision from sutex - but when you say three different photos, surely you mean four? Either way, it's a very powerful and disturbing image. Beautiful lighting.

Looks like a holiday home from Garfield72, although it is in need of a quick tidy round. I like these figures - are they taken from a costume website? The only thing is, they're so brightly lit and highly contrasted, compared with the background: either tone them down, or add more contrast to everything else. And, er, aren't the men a bit too big for the doorway?

Good work - some very varied approaches, and some real gems this week.
