Re: Challenge 988: The dogwash
I have to say I like it! It feels quite natural to me.

Nice work Loyd.

It will be pedantically pointed out to me on Friday morning that the dog is not dripping wet after being drenched, to which I reply " cos the clever dog is avoiding the drenching."

Re: Challenge 988: The dogwash
very little time this week (and possibly next week as well) . No time for any proper refinement so this will have to do.

My woofer, Rags, is about due for a bath so I showed him this image ... I haven't seen him all this week

That's about as impeccable as it gets Micheal. The marriage of photographic and pure graphic is beautifully done with the shed forming a perfect halfway house between the two styles. Wow!

Re: Challenge 988: BEIJING - PEOPLES DOG WASH NO 3
I've missed out and not commented on a few of the later entries as I've been bedridden three days with some horrible lurgy. Recovering now and managed to just finish this enough for submission. There are lots of rough edges and some bits completely unfinished but I'll leave you find those for yourselves. It was a lot of work and I didn't want miss out for a few omissions.

The Chinese Government has found its own inimitable way of adapting this western idea to its own particular circumstances.

WARNING: Viewer discretion required. Keep from the sight of small children or the unduly sensitive.

David that's excellent: well- executed

Loyd now what you've gone and done! You've agitated Herman, and he is now chasing your little white dog. Come back Herman...come back Herman...

David, thanks for your critique - my graphic took many hours.
I am glad you are on the mend.
Your picture is amazing! Much detail and interest. An 'E' for Excellence!

Re: Challenge 988: The dogwash
First to scrub a canine this week was lwc, with a cute quickie – I like the way the dog breathes. I have no idea why the dog bath is full of alien carrots, but then it appears neither has the woman in the foreground. Yikes! I was very amused by the Houndwash of the Baskervilles, with its neatly placed Holmes and swirling fog. Adding the glowing eyes to the dog is a neat reference to the original story.

DavidMac's camera shy dog is terrific, especially the way it appears behind the frosted glass. And the one reaching to insert the credit card is expertly realised (and the shadow adds a lot). I like the towel. You need an apostrophe after clients’. The hippo entry is splendid, particularly the way you’ve colour matched the inside of its mouth to the girl’s sweater for a really coherent image. Spot on. The Barbie entry is fun, with its pink styling and perfect placement of all the characters. The only thing that lets it down is the car, which is completely wrong in scale and position… you’d have been better leaving it out. There’s so much going on in the Chinese entry that you really have to open the original to see it all… a cast of thousands, with a fair amount of dogs doing what dogs do. This must have taken days. If I have to get pedantic – and as you know, I do – it would be to point out that the angle of the top of the shower box needs to change as it recedes into the distance. But frankly I can see why you didn’t bother with this trifling detail. Sorry you’ve been unwell.

I enjoyed Frank's Family Day, with the woman’s position cleverly removing the need to delete the original hose. The dog in the blanket is cute. The man with the camera, though, seems rather on the short side… but then maybe he’s just a short man.

A “natural dog wash” is michael sinclair’s excuse for veering wildly off topic. It’s good movement, though, and the two-speed background is effective. David Mac is of course right about landscape brightening with distance from the viewer, so that part is correct in the second entry; but I think brightening the foreground as well was a mistake. So if it’s an A/B test, I’m going for A½. I’m going to pedantically point out that the dog should be dripping wet after being drenched, and totally reject your excuse that it’s avoiding the drenching. I will also point out that its paws appear to be walking on carpet rather than grass: they do need to sink into the surface somewhat. The dog is better without the water, but (as usual) a shame about the jump as the animation restarts. You really need to make a seamless sky!

Pampered pooch indeed from tooquilos, with a glorious folly of a dog bath. The candles, the food bowls, the carpet, the brass shower and especially the translucent curtains all add tremendously to the image. Love it. The muddy intro in the animated version carries through to the mud on the floor pre-bath, and that foaming water is brilliant. Tremendous work. (I have to say, your original vet sounds like a total shitzu.)

Clever placement of the woman in the bath from Ant Snell, and the visible water level and bubbles add a lot of realism. The image is greatly enhanced by the woman with all the dogs queuing up, so that was definitely a good call. Very nicely done.

I think the thing I like most about GKB's entry is the shower caps. Oh, and the foam. And the cat. Not sure why the man is dressed in so much protective gear.

A total rebuild from Mariner (now how many times have I said that), with the added twist that Wile E Coyote has finally caught the Road Runner. At last! As David points out, this is a perfect match between the graphic and the photographic, beautifully imagined and expertly realised. Magnificent.

Excellent work this week.

You’ve never tried to give Rags a bath, have you? 😱😱😱 🤣🤣🤣

Sometimes the really simple idea's work best. It's not often I manage simple.

You need an apostrophe after clients’.

Quel embarras! ... and I'm a grammar purist.

The only thing that lets it down is the car, which is completely wrong in scale and position…

I have no idea why but scale is something that often lets me down. I completely missed it at the time but, coming back to it, it is so obvious.

If I have to get pedantic – and as you know, I do – it would be to point out that the angle of the top of the shower box needs to change as it recedes into the distance. But frankly I can see why you didn’t bother with this trifling detail.

Yes, well there's more to it than that. The view becomes progressively more oblique with distance. The TV screen would start to disappear behind the cabinet in front of it, etc, etc. Obviously I opted for simple replication reckoning most wouldn't spot it!

But I'm not going to sneak that past Steve in pedantic mode!

These were fun. Thanks.
