Loyd echoes of Dr Strangelove Nice work Gordon It's a mystery to me too Steve, but think "concept!" |

Couldn't resist. I saw this critter as soon as I looked at this week's brief. I constructed it behind the scenes whilst modeling St Gavon's church. _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

This was the only static image of a rear-end missile that I could get, so it's not a rapier missile, but think concept Click on the MP4 icon below |

Thanks. I think it's by far the better of the two submissions but making fun of the guru seems to be more popular. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Dennis I love your robot! Unusually for you it seems to be entirely a 2D reconstruction using the main image. Beautifully done!! Michael you're on home ground here! I like the last one best. Ant has managed his usual sideways look at things. Made me smile. Like the idea of launching across a golf course Frank. It's the aliens smug little smile that gets me Anna. Strangely I found the rocket part of this quite difficult to deal with directly. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1009: Fire away
First to fire a missile from the Rapier Air Defence missile battery (thanks, Gordon) was lwc, who has cunningly set off the missile from the centre of the battery (thanks again, Gordon) to avoid having to remove one from the side. Although the attendant smoke should perhaps be behind the front missiles. I like the way it fires into space – very cool scrolling background. I enjoyed the flying saucer entry, especially how it judders when one hits, a cunning disguise for the join as the animation restarts. A splendid homage to Dr Strangelove – as David says, we need the Vera Lynn soundtrack. Ah – there she is. Extraordinary billowing sky. Oh! You have managed to remove some missiles! That must have taken a while. Of course, you could have used the billowing smoke to conceal the hole, to avoid having to fill it in. Excellent. When I was a kid I used to love those cutaway books that showed the insides of submarines and battleships. DavidMac has given us a taste of that with his glorious above-and-below image, depicting the control room at the same location. And yes, this is exactly what it looks like, and I appreciate the trouble you must have had adjusting it for this viewpoint (in fact, I very nearly posted a photo of the control room instead). I particularly like the grass, earth and concrete that separates the two. And the glow on the arm and face of the woman with the radar screen is excellent. Beautifully done, David. You do have to zoom into the devil entry to see the full detail of me with horns, glowing eyes and, curiously, vampire fangs – didn’t know when to stop? But is’s very fine image. And using generative fill for background extension is, I think, a perfectly legitimate use of the technology. It’s something I’ve taken to using a lot, as it works well and saves hours of tedious cloning. I’m guessing Ben Boardman isn’t a big fan of convicted criminal and future president Donald Trump. A very fine pair of images: the missile firing in the background of the first one is especially well done, with the flame appearing in the middle of the battery. Adding the shirt in the second entry does tie the two together neatly – and I like Trump’s flaming hat being blown off. Better typography, too. Good improvement! I couldn’t work out what David was talking about until I zoomed in on her face – good to see the layer mask replaced. Black missile time for GKB, with an expertly extended background – I suspect Generative Fill again, if not you’ve really worked hard at it. Outstanding 3D modelling in the animated entry: I particularly like the view from the cockpit. That missile really is effective – no debris! A very well-assembled soundtrack does glue the visuals together well. A fine cutout and relocation from michael sinclair, although I have to point out the horizon issue – look at the left hand end of the launcher, and you can see it’s sloping up. That points to the horizon. The random white streaks are, as you say, ‘concept’. This is one time your HDR effect works really well. The 'quickie' is more fun – I like the hole the missile makes in the ground. But why the black bars either side? Couldn’t you just have extended the background? The missile flying over desert animation is truly remarkable; a very well combined image. One small point: as the missile is pointing slightly to the left, you should move it to the right of the frame, to prevent it looking as if it’s sliding sideways. A hilarious two-legged, two-wheeled robot from dwindt, neatly pictured charging through a battlefield. Very cute! I particularly like the spray of missiles going both behind and in front of it. They fix it very firmly in the scene. I think Ant Snell’s ten minutes was well spent. I like the added robot. If you had more time, perhaps you’d have changed the check shirt for a military sleeve? Or perhaps the home setting is intentional? A brilliant, laugh-out-loud animation from Frank, with some very well found background footage. The missile motion is splendid, fitting perfectly with the buildings. I really like the fact that the Trump blimp is dragging the Trump baby inflatable. Absolutely glorious, Frank. A move to a different planet for tooquilos, with an extraordinary planet? space base? looming over it. Personally, I’d have tinted the launcher to match the planet’s hue. I liked the blinking alien with the big red button in the animated version, and the missile’s journey through space into the black hole. And what an impressive explosion! The fragments of continents left behind! Did you create all that? Hugely impressive. |

Thanks Steve No, not Gen Fill; it was a walk up to the top of the hill outside Ditchling with Rags, take a photograph and then a new fence courtesy of Photoshop London😁 _________________ |
