You're right David, certainly more exciting. As a matter of fact, many of the newer off-shore versions don't even use a gearbox, thus reducing the maintenance chores even more.

Nothing like flying your Piper J-3 Cub out to buzz the offshore wind turbines... having a new bobble head makes it even better.

I too have never heard of her.
Nevertheless, here she endorses Derek-Muller's wind car concept as a global warming possible solution.

Aaaahhh a J3 Cub. I used to be a part owner of one and had more fun in that than almost any other aircraft I flew😀😀😀

There was a saying that the Cub is the safest aircraft in the world … it could only just barely kill you.

I just knew you had to be a "stick and rudder" guy at heart Gordon... neat little aircraft as long as you weren't in a hurry to get somewhere.

What Jules failed completely to realise was that, when dealing with wish fulfilment, fairies are not only mercurial and childish but can be dizzyingly literal minded.

Still pushed for time. Another very simple quickie. Last this week.

Oh, you didn’t actually go anywhere in a Cub but you did have lots of fun not going there

On the ‘stick and rudder’ comment one of the books I have on my bookshelf is ‘The Concorde Stick and Rudder’ book which was written by Concorde pilot Mike Riley. Real going back to basics and illustrating the idiosyncrasies of the aerodynamics of that utterly beautiful flying machine in a way that a well-trained Cub pilot would understand. Fascinating read for a ‘proper’ pilot.

Great work as usual Loyd

In spite of my ongoing health issues, I was able to make a contributing gesture for this week.

In answer to the part-time keyboard player's observation that the wind turbine has no shadow, I can only say "I won't tell if you don't"

Re: Challenge 1014: Killah Jules
First to transplant Killah Jules this week waslwc, with a splendid lilo scene. The movement of the lilo and the water are perfect, the double thumbs up and spinning blades really make it. I like the way you’ve curved the shadow over the middled inflated section. The surfing image required the neat trick of turning her foot, as well as the repositioned left hand. Very cute. Is $250m a lot or a little for a wind farm? I can’t decide. Maybe you should make them an offer. I like the pigeon. Some good bystanders in the tinfoil hat image – and I see she’s moved to Oxford Circus. The GWWI entry features a remarkably effective surf movement. Ingenious. I was really surprised by just how big these things are – astonishing, from the ground those tops look about the size of a small car. A really like the way you’ve turned her into one of those nodding dolls in the Piper J-3 entry. So neatly done: the moving joystick, the spinning propeller, the whole movement of the plane are just perfect. Really enjoying your work, Loyd.

A guest appearance by our new Prime Minister from DavidMac – but is that a space suit he’s wearing? I like the bubbles. The fairy entry is certainly instructive – tricky devils, fairies. Never trust them. Or is that genies?

A lot of sandy turbulence from tooquilos, with a multicoloured Jules and a rather cute spinner on her head. I like the way she’s in increasingly turbulent situations in the animated version, with the calm of the sailing boat providing a nice contrast. A lot of fun here. But I do disagree with you about wind turbines: I find them rather beautiful. In fact so much so that I made a short video about them back in 2018 (although watching it now it could do with editing and a better soundtrack).

I enjoyed GKB's cartoon plane, with her neatly squeezed in there and peering between the struts. Maybe a touch more blur on the propeller to keep the thing up in the air?

How does Frank's wind car work? Does the wind power a motor, or does a motor power the blades? Either way, that’s a seriously odd way to build a car. I like the way you’ve put Jules on the sail.

I see michael sinclair has looked at the original photo and thought “I could use those legs”. Well, fair enough; the Greek dancer is rather cute, and there is a turbine in the background. But why is the man hovering above the ground? There’s a distinct space between his feet and their shadow. Hope you get better soon, Michael.

Many thanks to Killah Jules for letting us appropriate her in this way!

Thanks Steve. Sorry I had a brain cell failure this week and couldn’t come up with anything better 😢

I don't think so. Too heavy and chunky. A far as I know, it's what modern diving suits look like nowadays.

In David Mac's fairy universe genies are of course famously predictable for literal minded 'mistakes' but fairies are much trickier - mercurial and unpredictable.

I find them rather beautiful. In fact so much so that I made a short video about them....

Yes very simple and elegant. I love the shadow play.

Does the wind power a motor, or does a motor power the blades? Either way, that’s a seriously odd way to build a car.

Sorry to butt in on Frank's post but this is a subject of huge controversy that I think might interest you.

A fun week but sadly free challenge time is not on my side at present.

Thanks Steve: but without getting into the laws of physics or the debate - the prop is supposed to push the vehicle with downwind wind.
No motor.

I had lots of free time this week and the quirkiness of the subject afforded endless possibilities for me. Many thanks Steve, a most fun challenge!
