Re: Challenge 1017: The riddle of the sphinx
Just in case there is confusion here, this is not one riddle shared between two sphinxes. There are two quite separate riddles, each with its own answer. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1017: The riddle of the sphinx
I checked Michael's image in the previous week's challenge and it's working as it should, but mine are not... strange. |

Re: Challenge 1017: The riddle of the sphinx
I have done some checking too. None of your images going way, way back seem to work and all of Michaels do! If you hit 'Reply' to a post you can see the original text of the post with its links. I did this to a couple of your's and Michaels posts so as to see their original text links. They are identical in format except you will see that Michael's have two extra characters i. before imgur.com. I can't edit your posts to try this this but it might be worth your trying editing a couple of yours to the same format as Michael's and see what happens. Otherwise it looks like tech support time. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1017: The riddle of the sphinx
I can't send you examples of the links because they don't appear as text they get treated as links! But it just occurred to me I can send you an image of the links. Here 'tis. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1017: The riddle of the sphinx
Interesting David, let's see if it works: Added the extra i. to test it... This is called 'Pathway to the garden'. EDIT: It worked, now if I can just remember to add the extra i. every time I post... nice spot of the difference. Also added the i. to the previous posts for an update, appears that did fix the problem. |

Re: Challenge 1017: The riddle of the sphinx
Presumably when you post an image to Imgur it provides you with an embed link. It would seem that something has changed somewhere. Is it possible that Imgur has had an update that you are not subscribed to? If Imgur uses an app on your machine does it need an update? If, like Flickr, which I use, Imgur is entirely web based with no app, do you need to update your profile? I think this is one to put to tech support with examples of the two address modes and questions as to why the links you are receiving no longer work. I think if we take this any further we should move it out of the challenge into Problems and Solutions. Anyway .... good luck! _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

David Love the Trump Anna, Frank, and Loyd very good This week I was stuck, so I removed the "froggy" monstrosity. I'm not at liberty to divulge how I achieved this. |

I thought of this several days ago and then became distracted by the Imgur link issues... finally found time to put it together this afternoon. |

Re: Challenge 1017: The riddle of the sphinx
First to liberate the sphinx this week was lwc, with a dive into ancient Egypt. How did you clear the middle of the wall painting for her? Or did you find it like that? I like the texture. The desert entry is fun, with the camels racing in the background. From a composition viewpoint, though, I think having all three key elements lined up on the right hand side rather spoils the rhythm of the image. The Planet of the Apes entry is ingenious, and so well realised. Excellent, Loyd. The garden path entry is charming, with its plentiful wildlife. The only thing that bothered me was the angle of the base of the sphinx, and it didn’t take much effort to fix: I like the background to the camel race entry, but those camels are suffering from an extreme case of pixellation, and should see a vet as soon as possible. (It just occurred to me that “vet” in the UK means veterinarian. I’m not suggesting they should see a retired solider.) The rock climbing entry is a great idea, the tiny figures really bringing it to life. Excellent work this week. Incidentally, your animations are working fine for me (Safari on a Mac). Whatever is the issue for you, it can’t be an update to SimpleForum Pro as it hasn’t been updated since, I think, 2007. Happily DavidMac's doomladen prediction looks like it might be proved wrong, as it seems to be Kamala is about tho wipe the floor with Maga. But yours does make sense of the curious cap, and I bet that flag took a lot of distortion to fit the space. What sort of person keeps their cushions wrapped up in a line like that? There is something comped about the two guards entry, but that’s largely because you chose a symmetrical layout which sets you back from the start. It’s an entertaining image, though, and really that’s all that counts. e and 8. I enjoyed Ben Boardman’s lion cub, with its matching civil war cap (there really must be a better name for that sort of design). Excellent colour matching and lighting. I was amused by GKB's Easter Island discovery, and particularly taken with the stone texture on the sphinx. Very good lighting match, too, and a well conceived shape for the shadow. The Greenland is really rather beautiful – makes me why you don’t see more half-woman-half-sphinx ice sculptures. The sandcastle entry is a great idea, and the girl frames the sphinx perfectly. But should the sphinx be such a different colour to the sand beneath it? I like the British Museum entry with its upturned packing case, not least because you feature the museum logo so prominently (it was my wife Carol who initiated that when she worked at the BM). You think the Friday Challenge could do with its own British Museum exhibition? Well, it’s certainly of great cultural significance. Not sure just over 10 years old is quite in their preferred time frame, though. Is that Helen Mirren in tooquilos's Egyptian-themed entry? No, it isn’t – but the animated version does have a surprisingly good voiceover (have you listened to elevenlabs' versions of Judy Garland, James Dean, Burt Reynolds and Laurence Olivier? All you need now is a text-to-lip-movement plugin… A real sense of scale in Frank's epic post, greatly enhanced both by the foreground photographers and the camels around its base. A beautiful image, full of drama and interest. I see what you’ve done by flipping the distant pyramids; but perhaps moving the sun position would have been a more coherent solution. Either way, it’s a beautiful entry. An interesting approach from michael sinclair, with its artfully removed sphinx. I like the subtle reflection of the red panel, but couldn’t the gold frame do with one as well? Talking of which… whichever craftsman you got in to repair the frame needs to find the right sized moulding. |

Re: Challenge 1017: The riddle of the sphinx
If she does, one thing we can be sure of is that they will be sore losers! Question is how sore?
Flag done very quickly with the Displace filter. Because it's so clunky its one we tend to forget. The cushions are disturbing. It's like people who have gardens where the tulips stand to attention in neat rows.
Yes and with the paradise at the end of the tunnel it's obviously an unreal environment too. It's surprising sometimes how much convincing Photoshop is a matter of context.
Yes I was confident you would get those. They are both quite well known. I found this one surprisingly hard. Not technically, but trying to find more than just plonking her down somewhere else. Thanks Steve. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |
