Bit late this week, so this one is rushed. http://vimeo.com/1006817563. Michael, your train is incredible. Loyd, I'm pleased you have become a HP convert! _________________ Dorothy: "there's no place like home!" |

Good to hear from you Ant. I miss my regular chuckles from your entries. Good luck with your project! _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

First to take the train this week was “clueless” lwc, who seems to have done a degree of research into the Harry Potter universe. Spot on, Loyd, even though Harry’s wand is now more of a light sabre. I like the steam. There’s the whole cast in the group photo – and I see they have a new teacher. I need to think of a suitably magical title. I like the hippogriff, despite its magical shadow that doesn’t match the wing movement (a cursed spell, no doubt). And it’s even more impressive when it files! Great clean-up job, too. Having children of the right age I am fully familiar with the HP universe, but I don’t remember any mention of billywigs – although I am prepared to give in to your greater scholarship on the matter. So it seems your interest in HP lies entirely with the magical creatures, rather than with the human participants? I hope you’re discussing this with your therapist. I suppose Dobby is almost human. I like the eye animation. Neatly removed junk from DavidMac, which I imagine was a rather lengthy job. The Lime brooms are, of course, the stars of the show, and perfectly realised in this image. But there’s so much additional detail: the view of Hogwarts through the arch and window, the red and gold school board, the 9¾ signs… even the reveal of the bricks inside the opened arch. The only thing that bothers me is the green Hogwarts sign, which seems to be at a slightly skewed angle. An extraordinary double platform view, with platform 9¾ in its rightful place. This must have taken forever to compile… and we can put the few anomalies (such as the beam above Harry’s head) down to magical interference. Once again michael sinclair has fallen back on a vehicle racing across a landscape, and despite it being the right kind of vehicle I feel I have to ask… Michael, why do you get such pleasure from doing the same image over and over again? This is what really perplexes me. Once I’ve done a montage, repeating it for a different client is always just a bore. Or maybe you’re just perfecting the technique. I do like the wheel movement, I have to say. And the carriage entry is certainly on topic. Rather nicely done. I like the owl. A lot of swirling smoke from tooquilos, with a somewhat fiery doorway. I like the ⅛ chopped off the platform name. That’s a truly demonic Dobby in the animated version! What a scary thing to create! |

Now that is sharp eyed. Yes it does seem slightly off.
It's intentional. It comes from your photo. I could easily have removed it, but I love the way old buildings that have been changed, adapted and added to over the years sometimes end up with irrational oddities of this sort. (This could, of course, be a rather wordy definition of "lazy" but, in this case, it's really not!) _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Steve I beg to disagree with you in that "I repeat the same image over and over again". Firstly, (given the strictures and constraints) a train station equals trains! Trains move...don't they? Secondly, this entry still took me a some hours to complete. Thirdly, It was still a learning curve and I acquired additional skill and experience (as i always do) from it. Fourthly, If you want to avoid such "vehicles racing across the landscape" then may I suggest you apply little more humane artistic latitude in allowing for potential variation. |

I have trouble getting the timing perfect for four separate animations within an overall animation. A fun challenge, thanks Steve! |
