Too hot for tents, but a canopy provides some welcome shade.

Not animated.

David, it's partly a result of my imperfect technique. Steve advised me years ago not to leave the edges of images too sharp, and not to oversaturate my colours. Although I know he is right I still like to do it my way. Ha! There's a song in there somewhere! My first entry this week is oversaturated, but that helps bring out the mood of the 'painting'. Both entries are oversharp, the TV screen and speakers in my second entry for example, but I don't care. Althugh I appreciate Steve's expert advice I create these images primarily for my own satisfaction. However, if I didn't publish any I would be like those artists who never show anyone their work. Slightly pointless.

Very nice, Michael although my personal preference would be Tom & Jerry; the Fred Quimby produced episodes were, in my humble opinion, the best.

Thanks Loyd. I missed the Punch and Judy one a few back so I thought I'd combine two.
Great entries you're submitting, some obvious, and some with different takes - Well Done.
Nice work Mariner, Gordon.

Re: Challenge 1061: VE Day
First to celebrate VE day this week was dwindt, with a neat callback to the recent monkey Challenge. Glad to see the woman has, er, cleaned herself up. Not sure a laxative is the best treat for this simian…

A nostalgic slideshow from lwc, in a remarkably dark tent. No reflection from the screen? Ah, there we go – I like the flickering lights. And it’s always good to see the moose back in action. I did like the multi-layered iPhone shot with my guest appearance as a reflection, even if that iPhone is several generations older than mine. It managed to capture the fireworks well, though. I like the open air version a lot – intricate cutting-out!

I absolutely agree with DavidMac about the use of PowerPoint. I once went to a lecture by the celebrated psychologist Steven Pinker, at which he put everything he was about to say up on a PP slide before he said it. Dreadful. (Oh, and good to see the magic lantern again. I’d forgotten how good it was.) I enjoyed the closing now image, but I’m a bit confused by the perspective. The scale of the torchbearers suggests they’re right by the second row, but in that case shouldn’t the man in the cap and the woman behind him be lit from the side, rather than the back?

I like how GKB has replaced the back wall of the marquee with a Union Jack, but what’s that thing sticking up in the middle of it? Has the flag maker got indigestion? Good use of WC.

Once again I’d been wondering what Mariner would make of this week’s Challenge, and once again I’m blown away by the ingenuity. Yes, it’s the same tent, but with freshly-ironed wall panels and a view more dramatic than even Ely could provide. I like the fact that you’ve used the same chairs, and the woman seated on the left. With her new hat. The kids’ cartoon version is very nicely done. Such a shame they’re watching a tv and not, for example, a Punch and Judy show.

There it is: Frank has come up with a brilliant VE Day puppet show. Not sure about the point of the lights whose sole purpose seem to be to dazzle the audience, but it’s a great fit. Now if you and Mariner could only get together and combine the two…

Steve, thank you. I really liked this challenge, which stetched my imagination and skill. Yes, I stole the kids from the Punch & Judy challenge. Well spotted.

Steve: "Not sure a laxative is the best treat for this simian."

You did ask how on earth would you entertain this doleful crowd?"lol.

Thanks Steve. Well done everybody. Not much spare time this week. This cheapskate is saving a few rands and is up on the roof for the next week plus, scaling, cleaning and high pressure hosing the roof for a new coat of paint.

Well done everybody.

Steve's observations keep me grounded. He spots stuff I miss. That's very good for me.

I think we all do these for our own satisfaction, but part of the pleasure is seeing what others do with the same subject. I always look forward to yours because there are often surprises.

People using PP seem to lose all good sense and sensibility. Bit like dress sense when they go on holiday!

(Oh, and good to see the animation again. I’d forgotten how good it was.)

Given how long it took me to put together, I am glad to hear it! Although I was pleased with it as a first attempt, I am not tempted to take animation further.

Scale again! My Achilles heel. I played with it a lot when I was putting it together. Tried again in the light of your remarks and (surprise, surprise) you are quite right. Reducing slightly put them at the back where they should be.

Not my favourite challenge but it's always good to find a way to deal with things that don't inspire you. Thanks Steve.

Thanks Steve - and notice I changed a few heads position so all are looking at the show and not day dreaming.
