who cares bout how many versions ya post, so long as they all show reasonable improvement on the last one.

Well yes and no and maybe EDK my friend. I know what you mean but ...

Yes I want to post the best try I can

No because Steve has to go through them to give us the feedback and the less versions of images there are the the better

Maybe because there must be a way of replacing your picture with the latest version. I have tried this and can't get it sorted out. I've tried all sorts of tricks but I'm blonde so that's my excuse.

In future I'm not going to try and get things done too quickly. I'll work on it an put it up Thursday night (before I go and play poker)

I'm sure there must be a way of replacing the original image. Anyone know ?

I usually rush one and post it up. Then I think about it and do two or three more! Of course I want the best one posted and I've messed around trying to replace the original one with another but the system just doesn't seem to accept that. I'm going to have to learn some patients and control my enthusiasm

Re: Contest 45: What's on TV?
Well if you are trying to host it on the forum server then the only way I know of is to make a post somewhere, attach the file, then click edit, copy the link which looks like
{img://www.plin.mailbox.co.uk/Forum/attachments/?????.jpg}
(but with normal [] brackets). Then edit the post into a blank (actually hit the spacebar, because it won't allow you to make blank posts). Then edit the previous post and replace the link there with the one you copied.

Alternatively, if you host it somewhere else then you can just edit the link to point to the updated picture, instead of the old one.

Does that help or make you more confused

Re: Contest 45: What's on TV?
This sounds a bit like the fish that got away...
I spent AGES doing exactly as suggested in the original post, and carefully (and probably very badly) turned every picture in every screen around after 'flipping' the bank of tvs. Then I got fancy and decided to put my dog in there and my computer froze. However, I HAD just saved the bank of tvs etc before I decided to add the dog so I was not dismayed. When I went to get it, it doesn't show up. I am desperately hoping that the reason is - that like the other file I sent to you, I saved it with square brackets in the name - somehow the program picked these up because I dragged your high res image across to PS. I tried it again to check and sure enough, there were the brackets.
So - I am sure the file is there, saved as TV_big[1].JPG but I can't get at it. Anyone any advice on how to retrieve? I leave for a big horse show tomorrow and I was rushing to get this done....

Have you tried using windows explorer to rename it? (or finder if you are on a mac)

I'm going to back up EDK here. He's young and could use some support. This post is all in good fun.

Atomicfrog responded to one of my old posts that was a "retouch" type challenge. That drew me back to this forum.

I came across the post where Atomicfrog told EDK the top annoying things he does in his posts. Obviously Atomicfrog meant no harm or disrespect to EDK. He even said that he was only trying to help him improve. That's admirable.

I intend to do what David Asch did and point a flaw in Atomicfrog's post just for the irony of it and not to start any flaming. I just think it's funny.

Atomicfrog wrote that these are 2 of EDK's annoying posting habits :

>3. Spell horribly.
>4. Use horrible grammer.

After pointing out these flaws, Atomicfrog continued with this grammatical masterpiece...

"...I can tell your young..."

Correct me if I'm wrong (and I know I'm not), but shouldn't that be
you're, not your?

The contaction YOU'RE is needed in this instance. It actually means YOU ARE. The word YOUR would be used to define possession.

I probably screwed up something in my post too. If I did, feel free to point it out.

Ok, I'm sorry... End of people being mad at me. Here is my picture... It reflects what it is like when people get mad at me.

Hahaha that's wonderful Atomicfog

I can't even find my file with Windows Explorer I think it died with the crash - I am sure I saved before I brought up the photo of the dog.
I saw a tutorial somewhere on how to get back deleted PS pictures - I am off to look for it.
Ugh....all those little flipped/distorted/painted over tiny tv screens, they were AWFUL....
TITLES
EDK has been officially confirmed as "Junior Macromedia Ambassador" and is probably about to be officially (by Adobe)confirmed as "Junior Adobe Ambassador" - both these positions came with good perks. He got this because of the quality of his work which I am sure is improving all the time because of the critiques and help on thie forum. I bet this is the only forum on the net with an official Junior Ambassador on the team!

I know for certain that PS temp files don't contain any retrievable information (more's the pity), as was suggested on PA, try doing a search for part of the name. You could also try searching for all files modified or created on the day - you'll have to sift through a lot of system files and other such nonsense but if it's there, it should show up.

Just a shame Windows doesn't have Spotlight technology

Re: Contest 45: What
I was about half way done with my museum piece when I saved it, and the next morning when I went to open it, it gave me some error. I tried everything to fix it, but I couldn't, and every folder it was in would open for about 2 seconds, and then close. I put a copy on my desktop and then I couldn't get to my desktop, so I used safe mode, and deleted all of the copies I made of it and started over. It sucked badly, but I am happy with the results of that picture, even though I had to completely remake it.

Actually, it does.

Re: Contest 45: What's on TV?
This has been an interesting week. We seem to have discussed everything except a room full of TV sets. The discussion has been interesting enough, but it must be confusing for new visitors!

Neal kicked things off this week, with a great merger of Max Headroom and that Robots robot (what the hell was his name?). Great cutout, and the toning looks just right for the environment. But - oh, shame on you! You forgot to flip the images on those TVs on the right! Unless they're all tuned to a station in a parallel universe that's a mirror image of our own.

I really liked Glen's TV Shop from Hell. Not just a really good gag, but so well executed: there's just the right degree of fuzziness to make the screens look as if they're glowing, and the central figure looks well lit by the screens. Then, of course, came the response… but Glen, your self parody was a great entry, too, and I think it did the trick!

Great first version from BobbyJo, and then an even better fresh attempt at it. My quibble with the first was that you could see the tops of the TVs on the right, but not of those next to them on the left, which made the perspective a little wonky. But that's all readdressed in the second version, which has an appealing junk shop feel to it. love the portable telly! Brilliant!

And so, at last, Einstein D Kid enters the fray with a Neo montage. It's good, EDK, but not quite good enough to gain your knighthood. Still, Adobe Ambassador, eh? Sounds good to me, especially if you get a free version of CS2 out of it!

You know, AtomicFog may tread on a few toes now and again, but he does come up with the goods. His swamped TV shop is great, a really nice idea. Colouring and tonal range a little odd, though, and I find the blackness of all those screens a little overbearing. And why are the hands so blue? A good idea, but needs a little more attention.

Good work, everyone, even if we did get a little sidetracked.
