Re: Contest 90: Make it move
Thanks Becky, that was helpful.

Am I able to download your giff into IR and look at the individual frames you created?

Hi,Becky!Again,Great job!Do you have a tut on your website on how to use ImageReady? Do you do up all the layers in advance in PS,and then go to IR? I'd like to create the layers in PSE,and then import the file into PS,and then IR.Thanks!

Yes, I do most of the selection work and layers in Photoshop and used to do the animation and optimisation in Image Ready, although with Photoshop now featuring the Animation window I do a lot of the animation in Photoshop now and only the optimisation in ImageReady I expect sooner or later they will do away with ImageReady and have it totally integrated into Photoshop like Dimensions was integrated into Illustrator.

The only tutorial I have about ImageReady is the one explaining how to scroll a background. I see now there is a call for some more tutorials on basic animation and tweening (in be'tween' motion) but alas I have too little time to put them together.

If you need any assistance contact me via Private Message and I will see what I can do to help.

Wow Becky, back with a vengeance eh with all the stops pulled out and the trademark moving background (the effect you get is very convincing).

Am I right to believe that you have a preference for image ready to optimise rather than the save for web (gif mode) built in to PS ? Is IR a better programme for this or .... ?

and Steve, what about a corner of the forum just for animations then please ?

Heres my first decent attempt at gifs.....

I suppose one is as good as the other - in all honesty I hadn't noticed that Save to Web features all the same stuff as ImageReady's Optimize Palette does, so I'll probably be using Save to Web in future as it will save switching back and forth. However IR is still useful for creating image slices and roll-over effects for web design and also features the Import Folder as Frames which is very useful. But now I look at it, it would seem there are fewer and fewer reason why Photoshop shouldn't be able to handle it all.

I just hope Adobe take on board Macromedia Flash's features like Movie Clips, Graphic Symbols, Rotation and Scaling via tweens, and perhaps animating vectors.

Edit: Nice animation, Lexus, for your first attempt. However as you have only the one moving object which is quite small you really need to optimise the filesize of the animation - have you ensured that you have checked the "Transparency" box?
Also try reducing the number of colours to 64.

nice idea, but then they wouldn't be able to make heaps of money selling Flash

Lexus two things, get your eyesight looked at !! my avatar isn't winking, thats an unfortunate squint of mine !! (mind you I reckon Daltonx saw the same thing)

and secondly.. perhaps if you started your animation with him riding along the top from the left in front of the shrubs he wouldnt seem to just suddenly appear at the top of the cliff - nice one

Re: Contest 90: Make it move
If you blink you'll miss it!! My very first Giff animation!!

Oh what hair tearing there was yesterday when I tried to make an animation in the same manner as I did as a film maker years ago. I created all (?) the frames as separate entities and then failed to place them all in the animation box.
A bit more reading and a bit more thinking and I hit the Eureka moment. All the animation cells aren't in separate files but as layers in the one picture. And as a you build up your sequence you put the whole picture with all its layers in and then select which of the layers you need for that frame!!!!!!! (Slaps forehead) Zut alors!!

Anyway its not much but it is the first. Now that I think I know what I'm doing I might try another.

Thanks for your advice Becky and for your encouragement Glen.

Ted.
