Great entries this week! As you know, Steve is off enjoying himself in La Belle France for 2 weeks. He'll be doing the round-ups for the Friday Challenges when he returns. I've posted this week's which looks like it could be a lot of fun. David _________________ A happy-go-lucky chap, always dressed in black |

Re: Contest 108: The invisible man
A lot of great entries this week - what a good thing to come back to after my couple of weeks way! A classic missing persons image from ShowDog, with great attention to detail. Note the insides of those shoes, the rebuilding of the glasses strap, the interiors of the collars and cuffs - and, of course, the perfect patching where heads and hands have been removed. Great stuff! And a clever fade on the second entry, too, Ah, the old jokes are the best... and Dave's invisible man in a snowstorm is up there with the greats. I'm always surprised at how little information it takes for us to recognise a face or head, as meguyer has shown us. And the second entry is interesting - but as has been pointed out, why the glow? Some fine displacement from tank172, with a true Terminator style body. But why would an invisible woman bother wearing a bikini? A very enjoyable second entry, too. Excellent displacement from GKB - Poser to the rescue, eh? I'd have been tempted not to paint in the eyes, but that's a matter of personal choice. Good gag, too! I like the second entry - but shouldn't the title of the book be distorted by the hand? Love the third entry! A truly excellent entry from Eggbox, who has clearly worked really hard on this one. A seamless job, with some beautifully shaped milk and a fine expression on the woman's face. Fantastic, Ted! A good semi-transparent Santa from j.harvatt - the glasses are a particularly nice touch. And the displacement in the second entry works well - but shouldn't we see some footprints in the sand? Excellent gag from Paul2005! For those who don't know him, David Blunkett is a former (blind) Home Secretary in the British government. A good idea from james, with a brave stab at the reflection of the boat. The trick here, though, is to copy the boat without flipping it; then distort slightly so it bends the other way. It's a difficult technique, but one that's worth attempting' similar to the digital camera example in the book. A beautifully created entry from 2bfree - just the right degree of spin and blood there to make it convincing and still subtle. Good work, and welcome to the forum! Amazing how you can recognise Captain Kirk from just the toupee. Great rebuilding of the interior of the shirt in Neal's entry - and great to see the space bimbos cropping up once again. A very spooky self portrait from BobbyJo - you look positively ghostly there! And where's your body gone??? Some nice blending in the second entry. A very subtle and well judged entry from Deborah Morley: just enough displacement to show us where the head and arm were, and a good use of dusplacement to indicate the fingers and thumbs as well. This must have been tricky to put together! A great gag from james, but it does once again beg the question: why would an invisible woman bother wearing a bikini? Just as well she's got the hat, though. Raffy's back on cats again - two versions to choose from! I'd like to have seen some more reaction from the mouse and cat respectively, especially in the second entry. And did you have to draw your own mouse? Very subtle work from Whaler - if it wasn't for those dark glasses, we'd never see him. Of course, there could be a crew of a dozen there who aren't wearing the glasses! A ghostly farewell from Dave - very moody, very evocative. Sorry you're leaving us, Dave, you'll be missed. I've stared and stared at michael sinclair's post, but I just can't see him. Is he truly invisible? And what a weird tree that is! A great idea from vibeke - I like the idea of the footprints suddenly stopping, and the shadow is a good touch. Not entirely sure an invisible man would cast a shadow, though... A deceptively good entry from jwhite - it looks much easier than it must really have been. Very convincingly patched background! looks like you've caught an old boot there, too. Going nuts indeed! That's why I took some time off! A good scene from Char, with ghostly eyeballs appearing around me. A hand drawn background that must have taken a lot of work to create! Good work, everyone. |

Re: Contest 108: The invisible man
Thanks for the comments Steve. I was hoping that you would be so distracted and blown away by the rest of the wonderfully, fantastic displacement that you wouldn't notice the lack of it around the fingers......wrong again! Welcome home. Gordon |

Re: Contest 108: The invisible man
I guess it would have been very confusing and maybe even scary for any spectators to see several sunglasses (and nothing else!) moving around (hovering?) on the boat _________________ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
