Forget about adding shadows, I added bunnies and started a fashion trend. |

Neal, Shading the Shades? or Shading the Shady Character? Nicely done. Everyone seems to have done very well with a particularly difficult challenge this week. What amazes me is the similarity of some of them. Are we all becoming telepathic? |

Oh what a laugh Neal! Where *did* you get that photo? It's perfect for this. 2b.., your pic is really good. I think we all found it hard this week. Nice setting Michael. I had an idea about this for the lens area but am a bit shy of offering it. I'll leave that to the boss! Sophie |

Hi Sophie, Thank you for the complement. I found the photo in the White house web site. Lot's of material to choose from. I make fun of Dubba at every opportunity. |

Sadly I haven't had time to give this the attention it deserves - last week I got as far as doing the tube then was so ashamed of my efforts in comparison to everyone else's I didn't have the heart to post... Maybe next week... _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

j.h... I can quite understand. I have felt that way too a few times but have turned in something whenever possible, simply to have a go even when it's difficult. I was totally defeated by the London bus a few weeks back though. Sophie |

Re: Contest 118: Shading the shades
It's very interesting to see the result of everyone's efforts now that we've had to wait until today to see a burst of images. Maybe something for the future, Steve!? It's also interesting to note that sand and sunglasses often go together in our pictures and that pink is a popular color when the rim color is changed. All in all, very interesting entries. _________________ Only in my brightest moments I understand myself |

Well not a lot of time this week as I'm trying to learn Corel Draw, but I thought I had better get back into the challenges. Especially these technical ones. This one was a tough one this week. _________________ Pauline |

Re: Contest 118: Shading the shades
Sophie Thank you for the comment, I almost did not post my work this week, there is something not quite right, but I cannot get a grasp of what it is. There are many very good posts this week. At first it seemed a simple task, but as I started to manipulate I found this weeks challenge, just that, a challenge. |

Contest 118: Shading the shades
Hello All, I am a really new photoshop user and only discovered Steve Caplin's book a couple of weeks ago. Here is my first effort with the sunglasses (in fact my first post of an image anywhere). Please be gentle with the criticism ... |

Re: Contest 118: Shading the shades
Some really interesting images this week. Since the challange was a technical take on the shadow, I tried to concentrate on that. From the clues on the frame, it appears to me to be a very sharp angle from the light, so here is my take on it. Doesn't matter how good your work is. The way to learn is to post it and let Steve give you his honest evaluation. Most places charge a lot for this wonderful service, and Steve is providing it free to his readers. Thanks Steve!!! Not to mention the fach that we can all learn from each other. Can't beat a deal like that, so post away. Welcome to the forum Big Vern! |

Re: Contest 118: Shading the shades
I'm one of those people that have problems with shadows. As far as I can determine the light source is coming from the upper left hand side. Based on that I set-up and took the top photo. Didn't have much time to play around with making a shadow, but will try to improve upon my first attempt if time allows. |

Re: Contest 118: Shading the shades
Thanks Dave. I am very impressed with the variety of ideas, the strength of talent and the kind support being shown in this forum for us mere mortals. I do have a question if that is allowed here. How did everyone get their image so sharp. My .PSD image was 1.6MB and then converted to jpeg using Saving for Web with the highest quality I could to get under 100k. My resulting jpeg looks fuzzy and has artifacts whereas everybody else's images look clean and sharp. What am I doing wrong? |
