I was just thinking that! He's probably so amazed by the quality of our entries that he's lost for words! _________________ Wrinkled was not one of the things I wanted to be when I grew up ... |

Re: Contest 141: Hide the pig chef
Oops! All comes of there being a holiday on Monday! I'd forgotten what day it was... Splendid work from 2bfree, with a gloriously saturated image full of some of the most ghastly critter ornaments I've laid eyes on. Those bar stools are particularly interesting. A rare (but welcome) animation from raffy, with the customary cat theme and the most discreetly hidden pig I've seen. Are those bunny ears you've grafted onto that pussy? Call yourself a cat lover! A cleverly woven-in Easter theme from Wayne, who's slotted our pig onto an Easter Island head with tremendous skill. That stone texture works perfectly! A touch more shading beneath the snout, perhaps, would enhance the 3D feel of the head. Not sure about this, but I'd guess that Neal raided the local gardens for all those gnomes. Is our pig a bit too vertical, do you think? Perhaps a slightly more jaunty angle would match the drunken gnomes around him. Is it the Year of the Pig already? GKB has added our porcine friend to the Terracotta Army - and he does fit in there very neatly. Subtle recolouring makes this one work well! And the second entry is simply stunning: a beautifully rendered packet. The crimping top and bottom is perfect, and there's a very convincing bulge to this. Don't you just love plastic wrap! Very appealing work from Ben Mills: the pig peeking out of the kitchen waste bin is beautiful. Had to look hard to spot the one in the pie shoppe window! Clever hiding from Dirtdoctor23, whose bacon buddies are cunningly nestled into all that statuary. Now if only one had been turned around slightly, that would be great... A great Easter parade from vibeke, although if my memory serves me right the whole nativity thing happened at a different time of year altogether. Thanks, too, for including the original photos, which really helps us to see what you've done! A bit of a perspective issue on the left, which could have been easily fixed by changing the angle of that kerb, though. Plenty of comedy chefs from dave.cox, in which Mr Piggy nestles in quite happily. My only issue here is that the shadows are all a little harsh: bigger brush, lower opacity. mguyer's take on the Elgin Marbles is a novel one. Great texture, but she really ought to look where she's going or she'll lose her head... Love the discus thrower in the second entry. A cracking animation from James, with great detailing - look how the shadow of the plinth changes when the pig appears on it! Love the flapping ears, too, as well as the extra pig ears on the lanterns. Excellent! And the second entry is a great bonus! I suppose we should expect dreadful puns this week... katew's Pigadilly Circus is a great fit, with shading and texture that perfectly matches the original. Not sure the pig's quite as graceful as Eros, however. A neat solution from josephine harvatt, made more entertaining by the pig in the middle sucking his finger (do pigs even have fingers?). My only issue here is that they should get smaller as they go back into the distance. Michael Sinclair's bowling pigs are nicely scattered about, and the reflections certainly help the realism. My only real issues here are with the angles of the pigs, which don’t look as if they're being bowled out of the way; and with all that blur on the ball, surely the holes in the top should have some radial spin blur as well? A fine wood texture from jwhite, although I'd have chopped the pig off at the waist and used him rather taller. Looks as if the head on top's in danger of toppling! A neat piggy farmer from Steve Mac, hiding perfectly behind that rake - and with a wel removed hat, too. Good denim overalls make this one work well. A great Pink Floyd tribute from stefan, who clearly remembers the Animals tour. A good painterly quality to the pig, blending it very nicely into the background. A very striking image altogether. Not just a pig among pharaohs, but a great day/night effect from Char... Love those torches! Although the Egyptian authorities might have something to say about their prized relics being turned into hotels. A beautiful sunset picture from Whaler, with a stunning sky behind the Easter Island figures. The real tour de force, of course, comes in the second entry, where he's turned the pig around - or, more likely, rebuilt one from scratch. This is really clever stuff! A bit of a dip into the 60s from celosia, with a psychedelic work that's swiftly turning into something of a nightmare. Time to stop taking the tablets, Helen! Several really well achieved versions of our pig from Big Vern: on the cover of one of my favourite Irvine Welsh books, in the willow pattern plate, nestling in the crowd on the Sgt Pepper album, and drawn on its side on the wine label. Great stuff, indeed: the only slight problem is the way the label curves around the bottle. These things are incredibly hard to get right! |

Re: Contest 141: Hide the pig chef
Thanks for your comments Steve. The bottle label was not coming out right; I started on thursday and was running out of time as I have only recently got back an internet connection which has been down for quite a few weeks thanks to my ISP who has "upgraded" me to 8MB dsl Max (and it was rubbbish) so I had to change providors. Hence I have not been able to participate for a few weeks. Oh, by the way there is more piggishness in my picture. I rotated the pig and turned it into a snowflake shaped brush and stamped it on the table cloth. Cheers BigVern |

Steve, I'm at a loss on how I could improve the angles of the bowling pigs given that they all have motion blur: could you elucidate? |

Thanks Steve. You have to have the overalls if you're going to play the farmer. _________________ Steve Mac |

I swear the bottle said "multivitamins"! Some fab entries this week, I just wish I'd had the time and energy to really do the challenge justice. Ah well, off to see what the next one is... |
