Wayne - thank you. Great undone button and loosened tie! Big Vern - I think Terry Gilliam would be proud of that - but no parrot? Pierre - very very funny |

Re: Contest 147: What was I doing?
When I cut my head off the body in that photograph back in 2001, I never thought I'd come to see it grafted back on like Frankenstein's monster. Most of the time you can barely see the stitches! First to get out the needle and thread this week was stefan, who's stood me outside Buckingham Palace waving the flag - with Prince Charles looking on. The motion blur in the flag is a good touch, but my head looks like it doesn't quite fit on my body... a little more shading just under the chin, perhaps? I like the symmetry of the waves in the second entry, but am I falling off the board? I think 2bfree will be surprised to discover that the Blues Brothers are known well beyond the shores of the US. And, certainly, my suit is in keeping with theirs. But shouldn't I have shades on? And a black tie? The gripping of the microphone works well - can't quite figure out what's in the other hand, though. I really like the unicycle in the second entry: and you've matched the jacket to those trousers perfectly. Spiffy new tie, too! A really funny reference to The Mask from tooquilos, with excellent typography, well held maraccas and a good fruit basket on my head. The rose in the mouth is particularly well achieved here! A tip on colouring clothing, though: rather than using Hue/Saturation, as I suspect you've done, choose Curves instead. You'll be able to get the same intensity of yellow, but without losing the depth of shadow. I don't know what vibeke's on this week, but I'm sure it must be illegal. A woman with a man's body and a tennis player's legs about to spear a duck with a giant fork? How on earth did you arrive at that combination? But it's a great montage, plenty of life and interest. One minor thing about the reflection: we can see the reflected rocks through the reflection of the ankles. Of course, they should obscure the rocks! Just a tiny thing, really. A very graphic image from steve hill: it never fails to amaze me how much detail we're able to read from a silhouette. Just one technical point, though: if this chap's conducting an orchestra, which I suspect he is, then he really should have just the one baton. Unless he's conducting two orchestras, of course. Hilarious work from Dirtdoctor23 - pushing news reporters out of planes is always fun. A fantastic expression, neatly gripped microphone and perfect colour matching on the head and hands. What's that tie up to, though? It seems to be spreading! The second entry is excellent, with the new headline matching the perspective and style really well. And all that work writing new text! The image itself seems a little awkward on the front, though: with so much blue in the paper, should the photo be quite so saturated? Dave.coxhas given me a great way to promote the book - now, if only I'd had the forethought to print this edition a yard high. What a neat way to get around the problem of that cut-off head! And the slight distortion on the book really helps, too. A wonderful entry from michael sinclair this week - and animated, too! There's a lot of detail hidden away here: the jacket shortened to match the kilt-accompanying style; the shadow that shifts with the figure; the dancing feet; the choice of new hands... most entertaining, Michael! I love the slow pace of the animation in james' entry - subtle work! And that body does hold the sign well. A slight touch of shadow beneath the fingers, perhaps? Come to think of it, the whole sign could do with a little shading and perhaps a slight distortion to make it look more realistic. But I love the second entry: fitting all those Forum members on the cover is a great idea! Great action from Eggbox - I particularly like the lining revealed by the turned corner of the jacket, clever work there. I think I'd have stretched a leg out so it's nearer his face: at present, the opponent appears to be flinching from nothing. And surely the leaping figure needs a reflection? Great movement on the tie, though. As to your request for more views of me - surely that would only lead to more guest appearances in the Friday Challenge! I don't know what medical procedure is about to follow in Steve Mac's entry, but if it involves rubber gloves then I'd be screaming too. A slightly tricky join between the head and the neck, and it bothers me slightly that all the people here are such different colours! Still, whoever managed to fix wallpaper to that corrugated wall did a great job. A great scene from katew - is that the launch of Vista beached on the shore there? The body fits well into the ring, and I like the water darkening the bottom of the clothing. Bill's head seems a little too high on the neck, though: and I'd love to have seem some reflections in this one! Ben Mills has been having fun with the Liquify filter - a great expression there! I'd pull the outside of the eyebrows up a touch, though, to accentuate the sense of the eyes frowning. Great rain, and the damp lettering on the card is most appealing. Overall, though, I like the consistency of this image: it's all very coherent (except, perhaps, for the hair, which is a little too dark compared to the muted black of the umbrella). Nice one. So Deborah Morley isn't missing our future former Prime Minister, then... poor old Tony, waving his neatly distressed flags (I love the folded down section of the red one, a great detail). A very good choice of background, and - as ever - placing the banner beneath that marquee strut really fixes it into the scene. A nice scene from Wayne: that head peeking out from under the mistletoe man's arm is really neatly placed, and the heads fit the bodies perfectly. The undone shirt button and loosened tie are so well achieved I didn't spot them the first time around! And what a great party hat: you'd be amazed the number of times I've had to draw one of those, I've never managed to Google a decent one. I'd really like to have seen some eye contact in here, though! Very nice work from celosia: harking back to two separate Friday Challenges in this one! I'd have rotated those hands slightly to make them the right angle to grip the bars here, though. And when placing heads on bodies, do always pay attention to the skin colouring: Gordon's very blue compared to the hands! A novel approach from Whaler: it looks to me as if both heads were originally in this picture (certainly, the net over the hat would suggest that) and the body has been grafted in to a complete scene. It's a good fit, although the hands seem a little oversaturated. And are you sure sober brown is the right colour for our otherwise rather extrovert clown? A wonderful animation from bigVern - what a fabulous expression as the head is pulled off! I've often wondered how different the Monty Python animations might have looked if Terry Gilliam had access to Photoshop, and Vern's given us a clue here. Excellent! Pierre has been playing with Liquify as well, this week: this one's clearly taken some time! A fantastic caricature, and my brain could certainly do with a good floss. Expertly drawn flag, too: those creases and wrinkles are thoroughly convincing. Fantastic transparency in the XRay in Neal's entry, and very subtly shifted eyes to look at it. The hands certainly hold it well, and the slight edge to the XRay give it that subtle sense of thickness. Shouldn't that be Marty in the chair, though? |

Yes, you're right, Steve, both heads are original. About the sober brown colour; I was wondering about that, too. How did you end up amongst the clowns looking like that? _________________ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Thanks , Mr. Caplin. The tie was supposed to look like it is nearer the camera as the body is falling away and waving in the wind. I guess I over did the perspective. _________________ "I haven't failed.... I've found 10,000 ways that don't work!" Thomas Edison |

Re: Contest 147: What was I doing?
Thanks Steve. I don't think it is nearly as creative as some of the other stuff here, and I was kind of running out of time, so I cheated, and just put the sign there. But then, Isn't that what this site is all about? Cheating with PS? |

Re: Contest 147: What was I doing?
Thanks for the comments, I did leave this one a little late, adjusting the colour levels of the face didn't occur to me, though I did lighten it a little. Will work on convincingly rotating hands etc... (I tend to follow the rule of if I can't do an effect convincingly, don't foul it up by trying - leave it as it is and pretend it's meant to be like that! ) |
