The flag of the state of Maine from Luis, with multiple ripples and a design that maps well onto the surface. I like the shading, particularly, although I'm nor sure about the well-defined border.

Thanks for the comments Steve. May I ask you, what's wrong with the border around the flag? Are you seeing something that I'm not? Is it to thick?

I don't think I've ever seen a flag with a border on it - except, perhaps, where the edge has been sewn together. The border makes it look rather artificial; it cuts the flag off from the background, when what we want is to blend it in.

Thanks Steve. I see what you are saying. I just added the border because I thought it looked good.

Thanks for the feedback Steve.

I'll get better with those water drops.

Somehow, I just couldn't ripple Jasper Johns. I felt it would have lost the flavor of his work.

You can tell I'm not pleased with my country and the way it's been heading the last eight years. Fortunately, no one is going to issue a fatwah for making a political statement in the US. One of the good things about my country I think.

I really do enjoy political statements with this medium. Just fun!

Thanks Steve, the flag pole is some of the mosaic from the skull sculpture, too big I thought right after posting it.

I wonder why the displacement map didn't move the diagonals very much? Back to the lab to check out some numbers.

Hello Steve, I don't know if you pick up comments from several weeks ago, but I have been puzzling your comments for a while now (must be old age)! and I really couldn't understand what you meant. The top of the flagpole wasn't supposed to be a landing place: it was just the Martians flagpole. But what totally confused me was my other half said the spaceships were too big, and then you said about the size of them and I was lost! Did you mean the spaceships should get smaller as they got closer to Earth so they could land on the flagtop?
The flag was from Mars Attacks!

Deborah, from looking at your pictures I can see what Steve was on about. Its hard to see if they are coming in from the background in the distance and coming in to land or is it hovering in front of the flag pole? Just changing around the scales and positions can give a different feel of where the objects belong on the photo.

I hope that helps.

Thanks for that Lex, sometimes you look at a picture from your own viewpoint for so long, that it is difficult to see it from someone else's viewpoint!
